      Our recent experience with Heartwood Builders was a nightmare. We found the new managing partner to be extremely unprofessional, emotional, unqualified and litigious in nature. Her confrontational management style made communication exceptionally difficult and ultimately led to us terminating the contract. Beyond poor oversight and management, scheduling and budget issues, there were a plethora of problems costing us many thousands of dollars, including repeated deviations from the structural plans. Disagreements on these deviations between Heartwood and the engineer-of-record resulted in us consulting with a second engineering firm, who agreed with the original requirements. Had Heartwood simply followed the plans, none of this would have been necessary and we wouldnt have been out a significant amount of money. Mistakes were plentiful throughout and we found ourselves paying for faulty work (plus the 20% management fee) and later paying another firm to rebuild and correct the Heartwood errors. Heartwoods business practices were described to us as unethical and egregious by several industry professionals. Firing Heartwood was extremely difficult, but ultimately we had no choice. We only wish we'd fired them sooner. Our house may have been structurally unsound had we stayed with them.
