2-9-** I wrote a complaint. All I was met with was a reiteration of what I already knew about fact sheet #** under the fair labor standards act. I was also met with the workplace policy that sleep time is not paid. They wanted my to sign agreeing to the policy, which I havent done. Here is the complaint I wrote: Dear, DDI board of directors I need to address an issue that Ive become complacent to, that has been bothering me of late. Back in 2018 when I that has been bothering me of late. Back in 2018 when i was initially hired as a residential house counselor; I was aware that spending the night at the Group Home was a necessary part of the job. I was also somewhat aware that I would not be receiving pay for my time. And this is where we come to the issue at hand. according to fact sheet #**: hours worked under the fair labor, standards act (FLSA), sleeping time is: an employee who is required to be on duty for 24 hours or more may AGREE with the employer to exclude from hours worked bona fide regularly scheduled sleeping periods of not more than eight hours, Provided adequate sleeping facilities are furnished by the employer, and the employee can usually enjoy and uninterrupted nights sleep. I am aware that all of those specifications have been met, but from my point of view, although I am asleep, and therefore not working, I am still sacrificing the comfort of my own family and home to ensure the residents safety during the night. I would compare it to bringing home a newborn baby; and that, although they are asleep in the other room, as a parent, you are still alert for anything that might happen. So, you are never truly off the clock. So, *** come to the conclusion that I do not agree to have no pay during my sleep time, and that I would greatly appreciate, at least half pay while sleeping, as well as any overtime hours that will incur. I would greatly appreciate it If you would take time to consider my position on this issue. Sincerely, *********************
