Last week I experienced a power outage at a rental property that I own. I called this company to schedule someone to come out and see what the problem was. ***** arrived the next morning and offered to give me a band aid fix, and a long term option depending on cost. ***** then called me back 15 minutes later to give me a story about how my housing meter was faulty and this is what would be needed in order to fix the problem. He charged me $375 for this diagnostic and the fix would be $1300. I then had another electrician come out to replace the housing meter only to find out it wasnt faulty as ***** had said but excel just needed to fix the account as it is a duplex with 2 meters. This requires no tools, additional work, etc. ***** is supposedly a licensed electrician who swears by his work even though I called them and explained what happened. I then spoke to the manager *** who would not budge when I believed ***** had overcharged for a wrong diagnosis and told me he did everything properly and the $375 would stand. I believe they are targeting people who do not understands their craft and overcharging for misdiagnosiss completed. I could only imagine if people didnt have the means to get a second opinion like I do, who have already been robbed my this company for improper work.

    Business Response

On November 17th at 4:30 you called into our office to see if we could get someone out to your duplex to check on why the unit was having power issues.  We were able to get someone to your unit at our first available time. Which was the next morning between 8-10.  Our Electrician arrived at 8:20.  Since you were not on site, he spoke with the tenant to get some more information. The lower portion of the duplex had no power He then called you to give you the estimate for a diagnostic.  He then proceeded to do the diagnostic and found that power came into the base, but did not leave the panel, the jaws of the meter base felt very loose. We do not contact the power company each time a customer calls and says they are having an issue with their power.  Since the meter jaws were loose, this does require a repair for the safety of the system. Thank you

I am rejecting this response because: Their response, clearly absolves them from any professional recommendations, which is the reason I was looking for a licensed electrician. The electrician that came after American Electrician, did not need to call the Energy company, nor did he diagnose any "loose wiring" that would require the quote that American Electrician is saying they apparently need. He simply looked at the meter, which ***** said did not work, which was a lie. ***** and American Electrician lied to me so they could collect a $380 "diagnosis fee" which would have been unnecessary, per the electrician who came out after them. On top of that thy tried to charge me for work (another $1200) that would have been unnecessary. Now they ar saying it was all correct and it was my fault somehow? No way, this is fraud.

    Sincerely,
