I purchased a full driving program for my 15 year old son through American Driving Academy. It was 30 hours class on rules of the road, permit test and 6 hours behind the wheel. When the program was completed they offered a drivers license test for an additional $80. My son went through the program. In July 2023 he scheduled his final drivers test with American Driving Academy to receive his license through ***. It was scheduled August 1. I called American Driving Academy to verify my 16 year old son had everything he needed to complete the program, what papers he needed to bring and that the appointment was showing up and was paid because he did it online. The lady from the school verified he was ready to go. He took his driving test and passed. We went online to the *** and followed the process the American Academy lady had told us. We received and email from the *** that he was missing his 6 instructional driving hours. My son contacted the school and asked if they could send over a copy of completion so we could get his license. ******************** stated that he had 2 more instructional hours to do and couldnt get him in until Aug 21 at 8:00. I contacted the academy and asked where the confusion was because I had called in July and they said he was ready. I wanted to know how he was able to do the final test with them without finishing their coarse. The manager said there was nothing she could do for me to get him in sooner and i needed to schedule with his driver. About 10 minutes went by, the manager called stating I had to pay a $55 dollar cancel fee for a canceled instruction driving time back in March. I stated we gave driver a 2 day notice and we only need 18hr notice based on what their contract with us said. She said it had to be online, not with the driver or it didnt count. That is not what the contract states.

      Business Response

      Date: 10/02/2024

Hello, sorry for the late response on this platform. I think that I may remember this situation and if I remember correctly we ended up getting everything squared away. We are not sure why we only had record of 2 driving lessons, however, someone can still take a drive test even without completing the 6 hours. The tester has no way of knowing whether someone completed the 6 hours or not. In regards to the $55, soemone can either cancel their appointment online through their account or by calling our office. Our instructor should have done a better job communicating that to you. Again, I think we got everything resolved but if not please feel free to reach out to us again at ******************************** and I would be happy to take another look into it. Thank you for your business.
