    In 2023, I signed up for the top tier membership & was told I could downgrade at any time - when I wanted to do this, I was told there would be excessive fees and was convinced to do it when my membership expired. I went into the gym the day after my membership expired and found out that my contract (which was never provided to me when I signed up) was on auto-renew and there was no way for them to cancel the next month that I did not want. I asked to downgrade to the basic membership and was told I'd have to pay a $52.49 fee to downgrade. I was told the new membership was $14.99/mo and that the month-to-month memberships did not incur the annual fee of $49.99 (since we pay $5 extra/month or $60/year for no contract) but when I saw the contract that they emailed to me, I saw that there was a $2/mo fee (for "taxes" - at 13.3%), plus I would need to pay another annual fee (even though I was charged this twice for the first year). When I told them I then did not want the new basic membership, they refused to refund me the $52.49 which stated it was for enrollment fee and 1st month membership - stating that instead, the $52.49 was a "Cancellation fee". A company should show you a contract before they have you "digitally" sign it and it should NOT be set to auto-renew without your knowledge.
