Thursday November 17th, 2022.After going to my eye doctor to try and have my eyeglasses frame fixed from a broken arm hinge on the left side arm. I was referred to Eyewear Repair of Colorado @ ***************************************************************************. I walk in at 9:30am and show the guy behind the counter my problem with my broken frame. I am told he can fix it for a cost of $39 and a time of 30 minutes. I agree and wait in his lobby. When he returns with my glasses, I only pay attention to the arm because that was the only problem when I walked in. The arm hinge is replaced and is acceptable. I pay the fee and leave. As I get less than a mile away I feel like my glasses were dirty, so I used my soft cloth and tried cleaning the lenses. But they wouldn't come clean. I pulled into a parking lot and took a closer look, I found my left lense was actually scratched up. I called the number on the receipt and told the guy about the scratches and he told me to come back so he could look. I went back immediately. I went in and showed him the damage to the left lens. He tries to tell me that the problem comes from a layer of protective film that will start to wear off after several years of use and wear. The problem with his explanation is that my lenses were bought earlier this year. The frames are older, that's why they broke. But my lenses were just replaced in February.I even try to show him how it's obvious from the scratches, they were made by some kind of back and forth movement. Most likely from some kind of tool he used while fixing my frame. (I tried to get a good pic of the damage.) He continues to deny any responsibility to the damage. But I try my hardest to argue my side. I ask to just have a refund cause now i have to get new lenses but he denys me. I feel I am due because now I have to fix another problem that will probably cost more than the original problem. So after about 10 mins of arguing back and forth, I give up and just tell him I'll contact the BBB.

      Business Response

      Date: 11/28/2022

There are several reasons why it is clear I am not responsible for this lens.

The first is that the actual part of the frame that broke was not the front of the frame that holds the lens, it was the temple (the part that goes over your ear). Even if this was caused by tools the only time I had a tool near that part of the frame was a screwdriver removing the broken hinge at the start and returning the temple after repaired. the s**** driver was on the other side of the lens anyway and other than that the frame was several feet away from any other tools. again even if this had been caused by tools, which it wasn't,  I never had a tool near that part of the lens.

Second, while perhaps not obvious if you don't work in this field, the area of the customers complaint is lens coating or coatings that have pealed away. although harder to see in the picture you can tell this because except for a little bit near one edge the majority of the area is actually smooth. this is because the coating has flaked of and not been scraped off. even if the scratches near the one edge are what caused this it would have taken weeks or months for that much coating to come off. if this had been caused by tooled damage the entire area where the coating is missing would be scratched.

Third another way of telling that this damage was not caused by any kind of scratching is that when a lens is scratched in the way the customer is claiming it becomes very opaque and would be a large white patch not a large clear patch of a different color.

Fourth you can see in the picture that while the peeled coating goes all the way to the edge in a large area there is not a single scratch on the frame. If this had been caused by something I had done there would also be many prominent scratches on the frame.

For these reasons I believe it is clear that this is no fault of mine. I tried to calmly explain these things to the customer he just wanted to yell at me insist it was my fault and demand a refund.
