In July/ August of this year I had Ernest the Carpenter remodel my kitchen including installing a tile floor. When installing the floor they installed it directly over 4 layers of linoleum. I raised my concerns over this and was assured it would be fine to proceed. They did attmept to put a self leveling agent on the floor but only put it in select areas of the floor. Still, in the last 7 months the tiles of the floor have continued to break and the grout is crumbling. They have attempted to fix the floor by replacing tiles, but this has never been fully fixed as it was never grouted and they simply put painters tape over the area. These replaced tiles have continued to break as well as other areas of the kitchen. I had a flooring expert from another company look at the floor and state that the tiles are breaking due to it being installed on the linoleum and that concrete board should have been used to provide a stable platform. I went to the business to request a refund for the flooring and materials which they denied. The owner's have blamed myself and my partner for living in the home with our pets while they worked on the floor. Even though we follo3d their instuctiosn during the instal by walking our pets in the front yard and avoided walking in the kitchen. They also mentioned that concrete board should have been used in their denial email, but blamed my budget for the project for not using it. The project as a whole come in under my budget and I would have been able to purchase the concrete board had it been diacussed with me as something needed for the installation of the floor. Concrete board was not discussed during the intial install, and only mentioned after I asked for a refund. I am requesting a refund of the labor and the cost of materials for this floor, which is approximately $2,300.
