I was contacted by Severe Weather Roofing (SWR) in May 2024 after a hailstorm that damaged my roof and signed an agreement with them for repairs after filing a claim through State Farm Insurance. The amount of the contract was $16,703 and I paid them $11,620 in advance from funds I received from State Farm. The work is still not complete per the contract. Work not completed includes skylight flashing and rain caps to roof vents. Nor did *** perform a final inspection and photographs of the completed work as promised. *** has sent me an invoice for $10,248 without a clear accounting of a change to the contact sum, and further have filed a Mechanics Lien against my home for this amount. I acknowledge that I did not fully understand, nor did I receive an explanation of the many forms that the *** salesman had me initial to get the work going, but it clear to me now that this is a predatory practice designed to take advantage of homeowners overwhelmed by a loss and unsure about the process of insurance claims.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/18/2024

This customer complained about the work being incomplete, however, at the time of this complaint they had contacted Severe Weather Roofing and the skylight installer and informed both that she would be handling this matter herself. Since that time, the homeowner reached back out to *** and asked us to do this work which we have scheduled for 11/21. Severe Weather Roofing will perform a final inspection and give photos. However, the City of ****** has completed the inspection and passed the roof. Our contract does not require *** to do a final inspection with photos - this is done out of kindness and is not part of the contract as we go off of the non-biased city inspection results. *** has sent a final invoice to the homeowner, who then responded that she owed no more money, despite only having paid the $11,620, and knew the pre-supplement contract was for $16,703. Since then, we have provided the homeowner with a clear understanding of what has been billed, and the owner has cross-checked this with her insurance company. We have been in contact with the insurance company, and they have informed us that the homeowner received a second insurance check of $6,069.11 and a third of $1,455.07 in August. Per our contract, under customer responsibilities, all documents including payments are to be turned over immediately to ***. This homeowner is in breach of contract, however, we continue to do our part and complete the work. The claim that this is predatory practice when everything is clearly explained in ******** terms on the front page and not hidden in the fine print is absurd. We have received word that the second and third checks, mentioned previously, have been cashed. Have they been spent wrongly on other things than the work performed by ***? We do not know.

After doing research on this homeowner, we realized we are working with a window contractor out of ****** who specializes in historical windows. Further research shows her credibility is atrocious per her ****** reviews. Very bad. Extremely low character. Everybody says so, just look at the ****** reviews. Very poor. It has become clear that this individual is trying not to pay what is owed for the work completed. It is so bad that the insurance company has begun to put *** on the checks going forward to ensure we receive payment for the work already completed.

Attached is the photo of the client when we asked her to select the color of gutters to be installed for accuracy's sake, and this was the response we received. The worst, awful to work with.
