I dropped off my vehicle (Dodge Dakota) at utopia tire on 11/21/24 for an appointment on 11/22/24 for my snow tires to be put on, an alignment, a bad CV axle boot and whatever else the alignment showed. They kept the vehicle for 10 days before they started any of the front end work, told me it was ready for pickup after 12 days and refused to send an invoice or work order before i paid. I paid in full for the work done, invoice is sent to me, and i then find out in the notes that two new lights on my dash are on (ABS light from apparently 4 new codes and my emergency brake light). The reverse lights will not turn off because of the emergency brake that will not disengage, and the vehicle, my daily driver, must be jumped every time it needs to be started. They see no issue with trying to return it to me in this condition. Vehicle then sat for two more days before more service, only for them to refuse further service to fix things that happened while it was in their care at their location. It is now 12/5/24 and i still do not have my vehicle because of mistakes they made and refuse to acknowledge. Attached are the invoice and also text messages from utopia to support this.

    Business Response

In response to the complaint by ****** ****, I have investigated and reviewed all documentation, interviewed the mechanics, the General Manager and have determined that Mr. ****** complaint has no foundation, is inaccurate, and some information is false and some of his complaint is related to his lack of understanding of vehicle maintenance and repairs. Mr. ****** vehicle was in for front end repair work only, including ball joints and tied rods. His vehicle had to be jump-started each time we moved the vehicle. Mr. ****** vehicle had no other repair work done. After picking up the vehicle, he complained that his ABS light and eBrake light came on and his tail lights would not go off, and that he had to jump start his car and that none of these were problems before we serviced his vehicle. Given that we had to jump start Mr. ****** vehicle every time, we knew he was not being truthful. His jumper cables were in the passenger seat when we got the car and we used them. The other issues he complained about were not of our doing because at no time did we do any electrical work on the car. All our work was the front end suspension which has nothing to do with electrical. In addition, his ABS and eBrake lights are tied to his brakes, yet we did no brake work. The eBrake is tied to his rear brakes, yet we only worked on the front end and again, no brakes. When he brought his vehicle back to us, we checked it for free and we found numerous fuses (new) around his fuse box which tells us Mr. **** was clearly having to replace fuses for some electrical issues in the past and, again, we knew he had not been truthful about the battery. We then returned his vehicle to him because besides being untruthful about the battery and electrical issues, he began accusing us falsely for damaging his vehicle in areas we did not work on and he threatened us legally. Accordingly, I instructed my staff to no longer communicate with Mr. **** and that we would retain legal counsel to handle the matter going forward. It is my personal opinion, that given the extensive amount of repairs needed with Mr. ****** vehicle (not discussed here), and given the false accusations, Mr. **** is merely looking for 'something for free'. Unfortunately some consumers attempt this strategy all too often. Our shop has a fantastic reputation and rated #1 in ************* by local customers and has been operating for 50 years. We care tremendously about our customers and our reputation. Mr. ****** complaint has no merit.
