      On 8/4/2023, I had an annual skin exam at Alta Vista Dermatology. At the time of my service, I provided my insurance card and photo ID. On 2/29/2024, I had an elective skin service that was conducted in-office that I paid for in full out of pocket.On 7/16/2024, I had another annual skin exam scheduled. When I arrived at the appointment, I was told I have an outstanding balance that I need to pay before I could be seen. Confused, I made the payment so I could have my scheduled appointment.That same week, I received the bill in the mail in which I paid at my 7/16/2024 appointment. The bill was for my 8/4/2023 appointment and it was marked "self-pay" and said "insurance pending". Confused, I looked at my insurance portal to find an *** stating a claim submitted in July 2024 for my August 2023 appointment was denied because it exceeded the filing limit.I confirmed with my insurance that this was the first claim they received and that I should not have been responsible for paying this bill. They would help me get a refund.The office has now told my insurance and me that the reason for the delay in billing was because I provided "incorrect information" at my 8/4/2023 appointment. They cannot tell me what that incorrect information is, though. This is simply a lie and they are covering for not billing my insurance in a timely matter. If they had incorrect information for me, they would have alerted me at my elective appointment on 2/29/2024 and given me a chance to provide updated information so my insurance could be billed.They are refusing to own their mistake and have agreed to only refund me 50% of what I paid when I shouldn't have. I am asking for a full refund, as this bill was not my responsibility.
