    We hired *********************** aka ************************* d/b/a Morningstar Construction as General Contractor to renovate our home in 2 phases starting in 2021. The first phase was the renovation of our basement which is about 95% completed took much longer than we were told. The second phase of renovation which was our second floor began in August of 2022 and we were told to expect it to take about 6 weeks. We began hearing from subcontractors in Jan 2023 that they had not received payment from ***** despite the fact that we had paid him. ***** continued to bill us and we paid him a final check for $5280 which he picked up on Feb 7 2023. He told us he was going to use it to buy the tile we needed to complete our bathrooms. He never returned after that and his phone was turned off going straight to voicemail. We later had a phone conversation with him on Feb 18 where he told us that another client had bounced a check and he had no money in his account and our money was gone. We have since received paperwork from a collection company attorney that reveals that ******************** financial problems go back at least as far as April 2022 when he applied for loan on the future income he planned to receive from our contract and others. Between materials and labor that we were billed for and paid and a credit balance that was shown on his invoices (that he has since removed from the billing website) there is at least $34,139.57 of our money that is unaccounted for. He has abandoned the project and failed to respond to requests for fulfilling the contract or refunding our money. He has not honored promises to provide lien waivers from subcontractors, insurance information, or uphold the warranty in the contract.

    ***** started off very nice. We are two women that just moved to ******** and our home needed some work. We paid ****** up front and the next week one guy showed up to start working instead of the team of people we had met before. No team ever came, just this one guy who was incredibly lazy and slow. He showed up late, took tons of breaks- I would walk out and he would be sitting in his car. He worked 4 days the first week and 4 days the second week and then he never showed back up. He also did more destruction than good. My house is a war zone and no single room has been completed. The contract attached shows what was to be done and I have partial flooring in my mudroom, partially painted mudroom and basement room and that is all that has been completed in 2 weeks. ***** will not return my calls or my money and had the audacity to make up a story about his wife and ask me for more money. He is actually working another job down the street and I have seen him in town. Please help.
