I attended Lamar Community College summer of 2020. ***** dispersed a Pell ***** in the amount of $2,380. I have not heard from them in 5 years, but on April 3, 2025, I was contacted by ******** and Fudge debt collectors telling me I owe $3,126.50 ($2,380 debt to Lamar and the remaining in collector fees.) I contacted Lamar Community College and asked what the deal was and why I am just now being contacted almost 5 years later. They stated the **** ***** was rescinded in September of 2023, they reached out by mail and phone on 07/01/24, 07/25/24, and 08/28/24, and then sent it to collections in October 2024. I have multiple complaints: 1) ***** said Lamar sent the money back to ***** on their own accord, why did they do this 3 years later? 2) Failure of communication. I should have been contacted more than threes attempts in the year between September 2023 and October 2024. I also looked at all of my **** informed delivery and phone records and have nothing showing any attempt of contact by Lamar Community College. My current phone number is still on file with them and the address they have is an old one, but it **** has a forwarding notice. 3) Lamar is refusing to help and saying I need to contact ***** and ******************** (where I attended following Lamar) and both places said no this is a Lamar Community College issue. 4) Lamar gave me a deadline of 5 PM mountain time April 4, 2025. I spent all day working and trying to call all of these businesses. When I attempted to call Lamar Community College again at 4:30 PM mountain time, the employee that I am required to speak with had already left for the day even though she told me to call her by 5 PM. Lamar is attempting to tell me the problem lies with FAFSA dispersing 150% of my Pell *****s, but reading the terms from FAFSA, that is allowed based on my qualifications. These 150% were also granted towards the ******************** so Lamar Community College should have no issues with this.
