    Juan H********* presented himself as a general contractor, who I hired to remodel my condo in vail. He started work in December 2021, and over the coming weeks I paid him a total of a approximately $26k (all via *****, so I have exact times and amounts). The remodel was halted the end of January when the Town of Vail sent over an inspector who said he was not doing electrical work up to code and also required asbestos testing, which came back positive. At this time it also was brought to light that Juan was not licensed as a contractor in the Town of Vail and was not legally doing any of the work he claimed he was able to do. This person is an absolute con man. He strung me along for nearly 3 more months about trying to get the permit he needed or to get someone else to get one so he could continue working under them, but none of this was actually up to code. I met with him in April 2022 and terminated our working relationship. While he did execute some of the work promised, most of it was done wrong and was not up to code. I agreed to accept $12,000 back. To this day I have only received $1,000 back, and Juan is exceedingly difficult to get a hold of. I was promised he would pay me back $3,000 at a time every week to every few weeks. I have a witness to all this, my realtor, **** ******, who was also at the meeting where the working relationship was terminated. My current licensed contractor, *** ********, would also be able to comment on the state of the remodel and mistakes made when he took this project on.
