Tradewinds Heating and Cooling installed a new heating/cooling unit in the fall of 2023. The unit performed during the heating season, but in June 2024 the unit began to fail and several times through the summer months. We would contact them and it would take two or more days before they would be available to come look at the unit, and normally by the time they could come out the unit was back working. Normally the unit would fail on a Friday and by Monday the unit would be back up. The company came out one time and was unable or unwilling to attempt to replace any parts, although detailed text messages, emails and phone calls were held with their head of operations ****, the owner ****. **** and **** made promises to research potential solutions, but when I would follow up a couple of weeks later, no research had been performed. The fall of 2024 came and temperatures dropped and I asked what the plan was going forward. Again, they made promises to research and determine option if this happened in the summer of 2025. Well the first heat wave of 2025 and spent time texting and emailing over the weekend of June 28 and 29th, but on Monday June 30th they made a decision that they were not going to go out to repair the unit. The unit has been down since Friday, June 27th with temperatures over 90 degrees, and we find out that Tradewinds are not willing to stand behind their work and the warranty of the unit they selected to install. The company either installed the unit improperly or the unit itself is defective and both! The company was assigned to us by a home warranty company named ******************** which in my mind should be included in this compliant.I have pages of texts and emails that can be provided!

    To Whom It May Concern,
My name is ****, and Im the controller of Tradewinds Heating and Cooling, a family-owned and operated business proudly serving our community since 2000. We have maintained an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau throughout our years in business and take customer satisfaction very seriously.
We have worked with this customer, *****, on multiple occasions over the past few years regarding the **** unit in question. Each time we were contacted, we promptly scheduled a service visit to investigate any reported concerns. On every visit, our technicians thoroughly inspected the unit and confirmed it was functioning properly at the time of service.
In August of 2024, in good faith and as a proactive measure, we rewired the thermostatdespite there being no confirmed fault with itto help eliminate any possible variables that could contribute to the issue ***** was experiencing. This work was done at no additional charge under warranty coverage. Despite our efforts, no performance issues with the unit were ever detected that would justify the replacement of parts or the unit itself.
Its important to note that manufacturers only allow part replacements under warranty when a specific, documented issue is identified. Since we have not been able to verify any malfunction during our visits, we are not authorized to initiate a warranty claim or part replacement.
We have clearly communicated this to ***** on several occasions and have also recommended that he obtain a second opinion from another licensed **** contractor if he remains unsatisfied with our assessment. We are more than willing to discuss findings with another technician should they identify a legitimate issue with the system.
We are committed to providing honest, reliable service and believe we have acted fairly and in good faith throughout our interactions with this customer. If new information arises or a qualified technician discovers a defect, we are happy to review those findings and determine appropriate next steps.
    Sincerely,
    Nick

I have used Tradewinds HVAC for a couple years and have been pleased with the service until the most recent service call. On November 22, 2022 Tradewinds came out and assessed a forced air heating unit we have in a commercial setting and recommended a "heavy duty cleaning". The unit wasn't keeping up with heating the area due to a build up of pet hair and dirt. It has been ***** months since the last cleaning. I paid $1,147.66 for this heavy duty cleaning. Seven days later, the until stopped working completely, and Tradewinds came out again and said the unit needed to be cleaned again and that the flame sensor was dirty. There is absolutely no way the heating unit became dirty in less than a week to the point it would stop working. The unit runs ***** months between cleanings. Obviously, the first technician missed fully cleaning the unit and Tradewinds refused to stand behind their work. I paid an additional $210.00 for the second service on 11/30/2022.

    Hello,

I spoke to ***** on the phone and told him the situation with this furnace. This furnace is not the right application for a dog kennel. The furnace will get very dirty in these conditions. We have a photo of this filter from the return visit and how dirty the dog hair, dander and dirt got this filter in a weeks time.l (see photo). On the initial visit we recommended a cleaning of the unit, but explained first that he should consider installing a different type of heating unit (unit heaters) for this commercial application. He opted to go with the cleaning at the time. My guys are very professional and cleaned the unit very thoroughly. I had 3 guys out there and they can vouch for the cleaning that was performed. We got the unit running and when ***** called for a revisit we went out to ensure the issue wasnt related to the initial cleaning. In that weeks time the furnace got extremely dirty and had a plugged filter again. I understand his complaint but because the furnace is not the right application for a dog kennel, the furnace is going to get abnormally dirty, very quickly as we explained initially. We cleaned the unit again and changed the filter for a small additional charge as this revisit is not because we didnt do our job properly as ***** is stating. We recommend to ***** to change the way the space is heated, and if he doesnt do that then we suggest to change these filters weekly to avoid future breakdowns.

I appreciate Tradewinds timely response. However their response is not satisfactory. It is not possible that this heating unit would get so dirty after less than a week that it would fail. What is likely is the service techs missed something the first time around that caused it to failed. Its been ************* for 3 months since with no problems.

What is not disputed is Tradewinds doesnt stand behind their work and Ill be sharing this in appropriate **************** and Yelp reviews.

I ask that the BBB post the text of this complaint and response on your website and note that the business has failed to resolve the complaint.

    Sincerely,
