We purchased a Dump Truck from DTI.The Truck Sold is not Safe and did not fit the description we was told. The Suspension is Dangerous when used as a Dump Truck. The Exhaust was Jury Rigged to Fit the Dump Bed.The Dump Bed is too large for the Truck, if there is a load of materials put into the dump bed (9 yards) the truck will tip over.We have put 5 Yards of materials in the Dump Truck, the truck is extremely dangerous, the suspension cannot handle the load. The Exhaust Pipe Fell off the Truck almost hitting a car on the road, because it was adjusted to make the bed fit ************** soon as taking delivery, we had to have Drums, Shoes & an Alignment as all of these items where dangerous and should have been dealt with at their "Dealership".The truck struggles badly hauling only 17K lbs. we was told it could handle hauling 28K lbs. no problem. We have been in contact with the dealership several times with no luck in rectifing the issues we've dealt with.We was sold a Truck that does not perform the way we was told.We have lost over $12,000.00 in lost time and repairs on the truck. We now have a Truck that is basically useless. We even tried to Trade the truck into several dealers, the highest we was offered was $40,000.00. We paid $82,500.00 for the Truck. (Which this has nothing to do with DTI).Bottom Line, we are owed Lost Time, Losses in Materials and Repairs. If we do not get this worked out **** we will have no choice but to go a different avenue to recover our losses.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/03/2025

DTI Trucks takes all customer concerns seriously and appreciates the opportunity to respond to this complaint. For the sake of clarity, we would like to address each concern individually.

******** & Description of the Truck
1a.Suspension & Load Capacity: This truck, manufactured by *********, was built with a 33,000-lb GVWR and factory air ride suspension, a common setup for dump trucks. The trucks suspension meets manufacturer specifications and is rated appropriately for its design.
1b.Exhaust System: The exhaust is factory-installed and was modified only by shortening the tip to accommodate the dump bed, using the original factory hardware. The claim that it was "jury-rigged" is inaccurate. The customers own pictures confirm the tip was secured at the time of sale.
1c.Dump Bed Size: The truck was upfitted with a 10-foot dump bed, a standard size for trucks of this class. It is common for similar trucks with GVWRs as low as ****** lbs to have 10-foot beds, making the installation appropriate.
1d.Vehicle Description: The truck was sold as advertised, and the customer acknowledged the dump bed capacity in an email, stating, You're correct, the bed is a 8.88-yard box. This is what you sold and we purchased.

      2.Brakes & Alignment
2a.The brakes exceeded DOT requirements at the time of sale. Per FMCSA/DOT regulations, the minimum brake lining thickness is 3/16 inch, and this trucks brakes measured 7/32 inch (approximately 70%), well above the required minimum.
2b.The truck underwent multiple test drives, covering approximately 50 miles in total, and showed no signs of braking or alignment issues. Additionally, our salesman conducted a pre-delivery test drive to verify performance.
2c.The customer arranged for a third-party carrier to transport the truck. We advised them to inspect how the truck was secured, as improper transport can sometimes cause issues.

      3.Truck Performance & Load Capacity
3a.This truck was manufactured with a 33,000-lb GVWR. When empty, it weighs approximately ****** lbs, leaving a legal payload capacity of ****** lbs.
3b.The trucks 8.8-yard dump body is designed to carry up to this weight limit. The pictures provided by the customer indicate they exceeded both the volume and weight capacity of the truck. Overloading beyond manufacturer limits would impact performance.

      4.Communication & Resolution Attempts
4a.We maintained ongoing communication with the customer and responded to all inquiries.
4b.We requested additional documentation (such as weight slips and videos) to verify their claims. While we received photos of the loaded truck and exhaust, the requested weight slips were not provided.
4c.After the customer mentioned potential legal action, we ceased communication, as we were unable to continue discussions under those circumstances.

      5.Resale & Depreciation Concerns
5a.The customer attempted to resell the truck within two weeks of taking delivery, listing it for $10,000 more than they paid, before even receiving the title.
********* fluctuations in resale value are beyond our control, and the offers they received from other dealers are not a reflection of DTI Trucks' actions.

      6.Lost Time & Wages
6a.Commercial truck manufacturers, including *********, do not cover lost revenue or wages under any circumstances, even for brand-new vehicles.
6b.DTI Trucks follows standard industry practices and does not provide compensation for downtime, as all vehicles require maintenance and repairs over time.

      Summary:
DTI Trucks is committed to customer satisfaction and fair business practices. We made every effort to address the customer's concerns, including requesting further documentation to help find a resolution. The truck was sold as described, met all DOT safety requirements, and was equipped appropriately for its class. Unfortunately, the issues raised appear to stem from overloading and operational use rather than a misrepresentation of the vehicle.
While we regret that the customer is dissatisfied, ********************** stands by the sale and has fulfilled all obligations as a dealer. We remain open to further discussion within reasonable terms.

I am rejecting this response because:

I don't want to waste time going back and forth with this company.

The Truck sold to us did not and will not deliver as they stated or advertised.

The Truck is dangerous. The suspension cannot handle the load of the dump bed, the dump bed was jury rigged. There is Interior House Romex Wire used to wire the lights of the dump bed.

The dump bed did hit the Exhaust Pipe while driving. 5 Yards of Gravel was in the bed, a turn was made and the bed hit the exhaust pipe, throw the exhaust tip into the road almost hitting a woman and child. We repaired the Exhaust tip the best we could immediately after it happened.

We did list the truck for sale after finding out the truck was in such a state. We actually sold the truck at a loss, the new buyer had an inspection done as well and found the same issues we did.

The brake shoes were 70% in the front, but the shoes had worn out of alignment, the drums had to be changed as well.

This can either get rectified by this "Company" or we will definitely go a different avenue to ensure it is rectified. This is not the first time this has happened with this company, there are plenty of reviews from other unsatisfied buyers with almost the same issues.

Bottom line, this company took a Truck, almost a Spotter Truck and tried to turn it into a Dump Truck without doing the proper modifications to it. This is their MO, this has happened before, I just wish we would have found this out prior to wasting our time with them. We have lost time and money because of this. They should not be allowed to do this to anyone else.

      Sincerely,

      ******* *******

We respectfully reaffirm our original response, as the customer has not provided any receipts or supporting documentation to substantiate their claims, despite our repeated requests. The customer advertised the truck for sale 2 weeks after purchasing stating "Plenty of power and smooth ride, goes 75 mph no problem. Selling we bought another truck and don't need this one".  Below is our original response:

Rented 2 box truck from this business on 3/28/24 at 1pm. Was told the daily fee was 175 plus mileage .35/mile. I was told the deposit was 1200 for each truck. I returned both trucks on 3/29/24 around 1pm. I was charge a total of 2450 for both trucks. Which included the deposit amount for 2 box trucks (2400), a cleaning fee (25/each truck, that I was never told about), the mileage. Was only refunded *******, they deducted the charge amount from the deposit. I was charge for 2 days a total of ****** including all the fees mentioned about for each truck! When it should have been 175 plus the mileage fee only, which would have been ******. Also the contract states that the deposit should have been 500 not 1200. When going back to speak with the staff, they said that I rented the truck on the 28th and returned it on the 29th, hence for them it was 2 days. However anywhere else you rent a vehicle, the daily norm is if you rent it on 3/28 @ 1pm the daily fee covers you until 3/29 @ 1pm, anything after that is pro rated. Also the business name is not very clear on the phone when first speaking with them they said DTI Trucks, paperwork says RMT Rentals, agreement states RMT Leasing. I would just like to be refunded ****** for each box truck. This is business does not inform the customer upfront of ANY additional fees.

      Business Response

      Date: 04/02/2024

The customer was informed that a deposit of $1,225 per truck would be collected at the time of picking up the truck. We charged the customer a total of $2,450 for a deposit. When the truck was returned, we charged the customer two days of rent per truck for the term of 3/28 to 3/29 as stated on the contract plus miles charged at $0.35/mi. The contract was written as a daily rental and not an hourly rental, as stated on page 6 of the agreement. We do not prorate contracts by the hour; therefore, the customer was charged for two calendar days. The customer did not mention or discuss any daily or hourly prorations of the rate prior to renting the truck, nor did he express any concern when the trucks were returned. The concern was not brought to our attention until four days after they were returned. The customer was charged an additional $25 per truck for a cleaning fee. Cleaning fees are disclosed on the last page of the agreement and signed by the customer. The customer was not charged for any additional fees that were not disclosed to them upfront. State sales tax and the mandatory state daily rental fee was collected on the invoice as required by law. The customer was made aware that the deposit would be used as a credit to the final invoice and would be refunded the balance.

RMT Rentals is a DBA of RMT Equipment Leasing, which is why the contract names both. The rental operations are based out of our DTI Trucks location and the rental operations was just rebranded two weeks ago, which may have caused slight confusion for the customer.

      Complaint: 21515449

I am rejecting this response because: This business cannot state an amount for the deposit over the phone and than their agreement states a different amount. Their agreement should match what they verbally say to the client. We were charged more that what we had agreed upon. Also, we use the truck for 1 day rental, when we spoke on the phone and when we booked the 2 trucks we spoke about a day rental. Renting out the truck at 1pm on one day does NOT constitute an entire day. The daily fee should cover 24hrs from 3/28/24 @1pm to 3/29/24 @ 1pm, like everyone else on the same market, that is the standard across any business that rents vehicles.  This business should not be allowed to change their rental terms to fit whatever they want.

      Sincerely,
