We had planned 3 nights with 4 other families. This is our 4th year.
We are tent campers. We book RV sites so we have space, electricity and water. Our tent is larger than a pop up. It’s larger than some yurts and cabins. Plus we bring our blackstone and set up a nice outdoor kitchen. We have used this set up for 4 years at Odetah. Feb 26, following more than 2 dozen posts on ******** from Odetah relaying this date as the first date to book, I called and asked them to help me with booking 4 sites at once. I did the booking myself, but they walked me thru it on the phone. We chatted about how we’d been coming for years, what we loved about it, I told them about my new tent that and joked it’s rated for 22 people but perfect for my family of 4.
Called back in May to add cabanas at the pool to our reservation. They were more than happy to take my money and add it to my site!
Yesterday, all 4 families did their grocery shopping, packed their cars, and were ready to go. Less than 24 hours before we were set to head out, I get a call from Odetah asking for our RV plates and lengths and years. I explained we booked the RV sites but like in years past would be tenting. They, without hesitation said “we no longer allow that. You will need to rent an RV or I’m going to cancel your reservation”
I was confused. I asked for clarity. I was met with complete rudeness. I was told no clarity was needed, that they no longer allowed tents so i could rent an RV or go elsewhere. I explained how and when I booked. They didn’t care. I asked why they didn’t tell me during booking, during confirmation, when I booked the cabana, or any other time in the last 4 months to do exactly what they were doing now and check in on the RV info and inform me we couldn’t use the sites as planned. She said “that’s not our job we’re doing it now”
They charged me a cancellation fee. Their follow up email stating “this is the direction the industry is moving with no longer allowing tenting”.
