Sold me a truck. Engine blew a mile down the road. Will not give my money back

    Business Response

    Date: 04/14/2025

This truck was for sale over a year ago and was removed from sale because we kept using it for a backup truck when others were being serviced. It was listed for sale at $34,500.00 at that time. When ******* ***** approached us about the truck originally, we had informed him that we were still using it but would consider it if he was serious. He then approached us two months later, late one Friday afternoon, stating he needed the truck ASAP with the plow and sander.

We informed him that because he was known to us, that the owner would reduce the price to $19,000.00 and the sale was as is. The owner told *** and his wife directly that this is a 14 year old used dump truck and they have to understand that before proceeding. *** called back 2 hours later and said he and his wife understand and want to buy the truck for *****. We reduced the price substantially just in case something failed on the truck, and he would have that deduction to fall back on. We started the truck right up, drove it all around, worked the plow and all the controls. The truck was running perfectly for the entire time that they went through it. Then we drove it around one more time.

Approximately 24 hours later, he called to say that while they were out driving the truck in the next town over it had developed a small fuel leak at the fuel pressure sensor. We gave him the name of the **** dealership we use for service, but that they would not be open until Monday. He said if he cannot find the part today ( SUNDAY ) he will super-glue and bypass it and use it that way for the snowstorm that night.

After Marcus super glued and by-passed the pressure sensor, he thought that the engine has now failed because it flooded with fuel. We still do not know for sure if that is the case but took him at his word, and with the pressure sensor by-passed, it made sense.

We offered to supply a loader with a large wing plow and an operator to plow one of his biggest parking lots, just to help out and take some of the pressure off of him during the storm. We did exactly that.

A day later things went in a horrible direction with threats made to the family members and properties. We had to take legal action at that time.

We let a few weeks go by and reached out to ***, ******* *****. *** stopped by the office and we told him that if the engine was truly blown that we would like to pay up to $2.800.00 towards the labor to replace the engine. *** was extremely happy to hear this genuine offer and thanked us several times for steeping up knowing full well that we had already substantially reduced the price for him.

To this day, *** has not provided us with a paid invoice for an engine swap on that truck, However, the offer is still on the table should they decide to take us up on it.

    Best regards
