I purchased 22 pails of ***** **** ** ** for $673. ***** website and the manufacturer’s site both state it can be applied above 40 °F and can be used on driveways that are rough and porous. The pail also states it should be applied when no rain was forecast for at least 36 hours. I applied it in early October when it was about 50 °F, and there’d been no rain for days before or after. There were quickly problems. In many areas it was bubbling up and forming small domes, which would then pop, leaving the asphalt beneath exposed. By the following Spring it looked like the seal had never been done. On 8/23/24 I contacted the manufacturer via their website. After no response I then called on 9/9/24. I was asked to fill out a questionnaire and provide photos, which I did. On 9/13/24 I received a response stating my driveway was too porous, I’d applied it too late in the season and that it should only be applied in the Spring, and since I’d only applied 1 coat the warranty was voided.
-This product is marketed as a high-performance blacktop filler sealer that can be used on porous driveways (see ***** product page screen grab).
-Applying this product only in the Spring is not stated anywhere on the product pail, on ****** website or on the manufacturer’s website (See Tips and Techniques screen grab).
    - This product is marketed as a professional grade formula. I have never had professional driveway sealers come back and do a second application. If this is professional grade formula one coat should be enough. (See ***** **** product page screen grab)
-Additionally, I repeatedly asked for an explanation as to what was causing the domes to form and then collapse, but never received one.
Their customer service said they’d send me some free buckets in the Spring. I would like a full refund. This was a complete waste of my money and time. I am not going to attempt to seal my driveway again after this, I will hire a professional who will stand by their work.

    Dear BBB,
I am writing to seek your assistance regarding a product quality issue with the ********* Airport Grade Driveway Sealer I purchased on June 27, 2023. The product came with a 4-year warranty, but after only one year of use, I encountered significant problems. Specifically, many areas where I applied the sealer turned white and unsightly.
I made several warranty claims to the ********* company, but they were all rejected. The company attributed the issue to improper use, claiming that the sealer was applied too thickly. They refused to acknowledge any quality issues and stated that only one address could be compensated. I used a total of 21 pails, purchased in two separate transactions. Due to a color discrepancy, they refunded the 10 pails from my second purchase in August 2023, but this did not resolve the overall problem.
I must emphasize that this is not the first time we have sealed a driveway. We have successfully sealed the driveway at our previous residence many times without any issues. However, our first experience with the ********* product was extremely disappointing. The company’s refusal to take responsibility and their lack of apology were infuriating. They consistently blamed the customer rather than addressing the product’s shortcomings.
I am seeking your help to resolve this matter. Your assistance in holding the company accountable and ensuring that they honor their warranty would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,
    ******* ***

    To Whom it May Concern:

We have been in contact with this customer several times over the last year.  The problems with the performance of our material are directly related to how the material was applied and to the condition of the surface it was applied to.  We explained this to the customer in several emails.  The customer refuses to accept our explanation, and for the responsibility for the failure of the material.  Dalton Enterprises in a good faith effort, to meet the customer half way has already refunded half of the purchase price.  Dalton Enterprises, cannot be held liable for product failure when customers do not follow the instructions, and over-apply the product by double the suggested application rate.  Dalton Enterprises always stands behind the product and the warranty's expressed on the pails when the instructions are followed.  At this time, we have done all we can for this customer as we feel we have already gone above and beyond to aid the customer considering the instructions were admittedly not followed through the warranty process.

    **** ***

I am writing to formally refuse the response provided by Dalton Enterprises, Inc. regarding my complaint. Below is a detailed account of my interactions with the company and the issues I have encountered:
    1.Initial Contact and Partial Compensation:
Over the past year, I contacted Dalton Enterprises, Inc. a few times. My first email raised product issues, the second email involved filling out a claim form and receiving product instructions, and the third time I called to explain my usage of their product.
After confirming that I used the product correctly, the company agreed to compensate me with 10 buckets of their product due to color differences. This matter was resolved last year.
    2.Current Quality Issues:
This year, after using the product for a year, white spots have appeared in many places on my driveway (see the attached picture). This is clearly a product quality issue.
I emailed the company several times in August to report these problems, but they attributed the issues to improper use and too thick application, refusing to compensate.
    3. Misleading Product Information:
I have extensive experience painting driveways and followed the company’s instructions. Many customers, including myself, have found that the coverage amount indicated on the product label is misleading. The label suggests that 1 bucket covers 300 square feet, but in reality, it covers only about 125 square feet.
Initially, I bought 13 buckets for my 3600 square feet driveway, which was insufficient. I had to purchase an additional 10 buckets, proving that the coverage information is incorrect.
    4.Company’s Evasive and Dishonest Response:
Despite confirming last year that I used the product correctly, the company now claims improper use and over-application without any evidence. This contradictory stance is dishonest and unacceptable.
The quality issues have left my driveway looking unattractive, despite the significant investment of money, time, and effort.
I am shocked by the company’s refusal to acknowledge the quality problems and their attempt to shift the blame onto me. I demand full compensation for the defective product and the misleading information provided.

I appreciate your assistance in resolving this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Dear BBB,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the quality and warranty service provided by dalton enterprises, inc.  Last year, I faced an issue where I was only compensated for half of the color difference in the product. This year, I encountered a different quality problem that has not been resolved, so my complaint.
Given these experiences, I am questioning the credibility of their four-year warranty and the overall reliability of their customer service. I would appreciate your assistance in addressing and resolving this matter.

I purchased 10 buckets of ********* 8 year driveway sealer in September of 2023 from ********* . In February/March of 2024 the sealant began to peal away from the driveway. I contacted the company with a representative stating that driveway is porous and probably needed 2 coats and they would only reimburse 5 buckets. The bucket does not state it needed 2 coats and if the first began to peel wouldn’t the second coat peel away as well? I sealed my driveway previously in 2017 which lasted 6 years!! It bothers that this customer services is so poor. I informed that company that I do not have the receipt from 2023 which they stated it was ok. I paid ********* $340

The information in the complaint submitted by the customer is not accurate or consistent with what was previously submitted to Dalton Enterprises, Inc.  The customer stated in his questionnaire, that he used 9 pails, not the stated 10.  Dalton has agreed to supply him with 6 replacement pails.  The warranty section of the pail, (see attached) clearly states two coats are required.  Without a proof of purchase, we feel this offer is more than equitable.  We are willing to change the offer from, replacement product to a store credit in the amount of 6 pails.

I used their outdoor paint for a basketball court. I followed instructions. The paint did not last 9 months.

I spoke with Mitch B****, the key account manager. He asked my prep procedures which he agreed I had done correctly.

He was condescending in his emails and first conversation. Our last conversation he said he was not going to refund any portion of the paint. He danced around excuses and I said I’d appreciate a refund and didn’t ask for a labor cost refund. They would rather have a bad complaint instead of a $550.00 refund. My labor alone would have been over $1000.00.

I also spent over 12 hours of my time cleaning, prepping and applying the area and paint.

He’s was rude and didn’t care. Seems he doesn’t care about customers or his product warranty.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/27/2023

The customer was responded to with a full explanation of why the coating did not perform.   The surface the material was applied to is roughly 30
years old, and showing structural failure.  There are many area's on the surface that water pools due to the poor surface
condition.  The picture included in the customer's complaint show the stains where the water pools and flows over the court.  In addition, the court area appears to be located at the base of a small
hill in a wooded area.  Courts with out adequate sunlight and pooling water will require continuous cleaning and maintenance.

Dalton Enterprises cannot be help responsible for the manner in which our materials a being applied.  The issues the customer had with the application are directly related to the surface he applied it to. Recreational paints do not simply wash away after a years’ time, so
new paint is likely going to result in the same outcome.  Resurfacing the court is only going to produce the same result without
addressing the integrity of the asphalt surface itself.

I purchased a total 3 pails of ******** Airport Grade Driveway Filler Sealer (with 4 years warranty) and 1 can of ******** Trowel Patch between 8/16/2020 to 8/25/2020. Upon receiving products, I carefully researched and followed the exact instructions provided by Dalton to apply them to my driveway. After application I noticed in December 2020, a few spots started to peel off which completely exposed the surface. At the end of 2021, 1/3 of the driveway had sealer disappeared. Note that my garage is for storage purpose so there is only mild foot traffic on the driveway and no automobile traffic at all. In the summer of 2022, to validate the durability of ******** Sealer product, I carefully chosen a new small covered test area with more thorough preparation before applying the product. The Sealer in the test area did not last December. I first reached out to Dalton customer service in 6/23/2023 about the issue and Dalton's reply is far from a good faith reality. 1). Dalton blames the issue on consumers (a pattern seen from numerous other consumer reviews from *********, ******). I assured Dalton I did multiple pressure washes and used bleach for cleaning before applying 2). Dalton false advertisement on warranty. Dalton deceivingly advertised a "4-year warranty - not prorated" on each its Sealer product. However, per their email reply: "Our Airport Grade Driveway Sealer has a 4-year expressed warranty. This is not a guarantee, but a warranty and the wear of the sealer depends on many things"; "All of these things will play havoc on the wear of your sealer"; "three-years is about the time when recoating would be necessary." If it's necessary to re-coat the Sealer in three years why put a '4-year warranty' mark on every Sealer? Because Dalton achieved significant financial advantage by doing so. 3) Like noted by other reviews, Dalton exaggerated the coverage area on the product and offered 1 pail of Sealer to "assist" my next application which barely cover peel off.

I purchased five buckets of your driveway sealer at ******. When I was mixing them, it felt like there was all sorts of grit at the bottom, almost like sand, but extremely tough. I knew that this sealer obviously had to be mixed as I’ve bought and use this product before, which is why I bought it again because I really like it. But even with a nice big tree stake to mix it with, I could not get the hard sand-like goop to mix at the bottom of the bucket all that well. Almost like it was dried in there. so the rest of the product went on very runny and didn’t settle in the cracks very well. I think ***** sold me old product (I placed my order online), that was either a year or two old and had been sitting in a warehouse, or had been exposed to heat or cold and shipment that didn’t do it any good.

I don’t know if there’s a way you could offer a partial refund for this disappointment, but I’d appreciate it. I talked to ******, who said there wasn’t much they could do because it had been open and used, good or bad. And now that the summer heat has settled in, the resurfaced has started to crack and bubble up.

I initially contacted (*******************), the email address listed on the side of the buckets on April 14, 2023, but nobody ever responded. I provided pics and a copy of my receipt. Very disappointing customer service.

We are in communication with the customer, and will work with him to resolve the issue.  The customer filed this complaint with the BBB on the same day he contacted us, so we had no opportunity work with him directly. The customer applied material to a very porous surface, and the material cracked because it was applied too thick.  The material does have sand in it and should be mixed with a power mixer prior to applying.

In September 2022 I purchased 41 (forty-one) barrels of ********* driveway sealer from **** ***** for $1,392.77 net of tax. I prepped the driveway meticulously and applied 2 coats of the sealer per the instructions on warm clear weather days. This was a monumental task given the size of the driveway. The product went down perfectly and dried however, I noticed in March of 2023, the sealer was spotting everywhere, bare driveway was exposed as if no sealer had been applied.

I made a warrantee claim on March 27, 2023. I submitted all documentation including prep work, application photos, work completed, receipts and description of what happened. First Dalton said my driveway was "failing" which is absolutely incorrect, then subsequently said that "failing" is the WRONG word, then said that the sealer "does not penetrate below the aggregate". The issue is related to the surface application, so I have no idea what they are talking about! They have never inspected the driveway.

Dalton has offered 20 barrels if I come pick them up in ******** which is unacceptable and a hardship. That is, it took 7 trips to **** ***** to pick up product. They also expect me to drive to ******** to pick them up which I calculate to be 14 hours of driving @ 2 hours each round trip per pick up! The product has an 8- year warrantee, I made my claim in 6 months. I would like a full cash refund. I dont believe Dalton is acting in good faith by honoring their warrantee.

I have nothing to gain by making this claim since tax is not covered under the warrantee, nor the labor or equipment such as new squeezes to apply the replacement product.

    Receipts, photos, correspondence, etc attached.

    Thank you.

    I purchased a total of 14 buckets of ******** 10 yr asphalt resurfacer on 9/2022, 10/0422, & 10/08/22.
@ **** *****. The product failed within 2 weeks (after the first rain on the product), it bubbled up and started cracking after the first rain on it.
I followed all preparation, application, and traffic instructions the company listed on the product.

I contacted ******** and stated I have purchased this product before and had adequate success with it.
I never experienced an asphalt resurfacer product fail like ******** 10 yr resurfacer.
Checking **** *****'s reviews on this product 80% of the reviews left state the failure of the product within weeks of applying. 8 out of 10 reviewers gave the ******** 10 year Resurfacer 1 star and described similar to exact failure descriptions as I had experienced. **************************************************************************************************

I wrote the company, wrote **** Dalton (CEO of Dalton Enterprises), heard nothing back from Mr. Dalton but received an email from a customer service representative asking for pictures, length of my driveway etc, when I submitted the requested material and received a response stating my driveway was the issue and I had not applied the product correctly etc. This is after I had clearly told them I had done this job many times before with no issues including using ******** products. They offered 7 buckets (even though I purchased 14) as a response. The 10 yr guarantee is false advertising if they have no intentions of honoring it to customers who are experience failures after weeks of application.

I bought 3 pails of sealer of Dalton with 4 years warranty in 2019 and applied it to my driveway. However, asphalt surface worn out so quickly that rock pieces covered by the sealer expose now. The driveway is in the condition that a new coating is needed. I contacted Dalton. It said on 7/28/2022 "the driveway surface is more rough/porous" and agreed to send sealer. It did not deny that my driveway needs a new coating. Upon receiving the order on 8/5/2022, I realized only one pail was sent by Dalton. It covers less than a half of my driveway surface. I requested Dalton to replace all 3 pails I bought but was rejected. Today (8/9/2022) Dalton said "normal wear, as it was applied in September 2019, nearly 3 years ago". it is contradictory to its saying on 7/28/2022. Dalton keeps silent to my arguments presented 8/6/2022: "
    1. My driveway is a standard driveway, same as a few hundred houses in this community built by a single builder 20+ years ago.
    2. Different driveway sealers were used on my driving surface in the past years. Their warranties were met.
    3. I don't agree with "more porous causing premature wear". It is not true. Even if it's true, the warranty does not exclude the situation."

I suspect that the so called 4 years warranty is actually 2 years. Dalton is intentionally cheating.

We are in receipt of Mr. ******* complaint letter to the BBB. Although we disagree with Mr. ******* comments and believe that the issues he is experiencing are directly related to his surface. Regardless, Dalton Enterprises, Inc does stand behind all of our product and we will be sending Mr. ***** a refund check for the three pails as he requested. .
