I had my vehicle towed to jdm imports on October 5, 2023 to be repaired. After multiple weeks of trying to get a straight answer on when the work would start and once started when it would finish I could never get a straight answer. Once the job was said to be complete I scheduled a day to come from over 100 miles away to come get the truck. I had an appointment on October 29, 2023 for 11:00am and when I got there nobody was there and as usual nobody answered any calls. I ended up going to the ******** police department to ask for advice, the officer on duty reached out to Andrew from jdm and he finally responded and said his partner was on his way and running late. When he did get there nearly two hours late at 12:47pm he was completely unapologetic and started the truck and that’s when I realized the truck was not running properly. At that point I had completely lost trust in anything they said. I got in my truck and drove it away in the half repaired state that it is currently in which is idling extremely high and having a very hard start. I genuinely don’t feel safe driving it. I’m not sure what to do. I’m pretty upset that he is issuing me updated invoices with charges ranging from $410- $1042.50 for work that is incomplete and threatening to put a mechanics lien on my vehicle. Please help!

Unfortunately these claims are baseless and we do have phone records to indicate otherwise. We talked to ******** on multiple occasions which he confirmed the work being done to get his non running vehicle, running. He also acknowledged via email his willingness to pay the invoice he received and approved. There was no appointment made for a Sunday pickup of his vehicle, and *** had clearly not listened like this on multiple occasions. When he was broken down on the side of the road and called our company, I was very upfront about "we may not look at your vehicle for 4-6 weeks at the moment". He did not recall this and called nearly daily(by phone records) starting a few days after drop off. We rebuilt his carburetor, tuned it, and replaced the distributor cap and rotor. Total labor hours into Ben's vehicle were about 8 hrs. I felt bad that he didn't understand my initial comment about how long diagnosis and repair could take, so I cut *** a break and gave him 4 hrs off of labor. He agreed and approved the invoice, he talked with us about a Sunday pickup. We are closed on Sundays, but again we tried to provide great customer service. We agreed to come up on Sunday, we confirmed Ben's cell phone number and said "We will try to make it to the shop for 11am, but please do not come until we call you. Is xxx-xxx-xxxx your cell phone number? Great we will call you as soon as we get in" On sunday we see the ring doorbell go off with *** waiting at the door at 10:53am. I am away and my business partner Eric is on his way to the shop. I quickly look up his cell phone, call him 3 times with no answer, and his voicemail is full. I try to communicate this message with him through our ring doorbell, but he was not within earshot at the time. Eric then tries to call his cell phone number twice, with again no answer. Eric lives about 1.5 hrs away from our shop and got there just after noon. *** proceeds to yell and swear at Eric (all on camera), check his toolbox claiming that we must have stolen tools from him(his vehicle was locked behind a gate). Eric started his vehicle, let it idle up and down, *** said no other words and got into his vehicle and drove away.(note that the vehicle was dropped off not running, and he drove it off the lot)

Also *** claims to have talked to police and that I responded to a call from the police? I never received any such calls, and the ******** Police Department has no record of this interaction.

We have emails, phone records, and video necessary for this information, we had originally been asking for $400+ for the repairs with the discounts we had offered him, but we are now seeking the full invoice price and this matter has been handed over to our debt acquisition company. It is unfortunate that this matter started and ended with simple instructions/information that *** dismissed, and is now trying to drag our name through the mud for it.

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

It is obvious that Andrew is clearly dishonest. I explained to him the urgency to have my vehicle fixed in a timely manner. That is why I had it towed over 100 miles away to what I thought was a specialist who also was a parts distributor as well . I would never have agreed to leave my vehicle which I need for work daily for 1- 1 1/2 months with a mechanic. I don’t think anybody I know or have spoken with would. Now if my vehicle was running properly I would have absolutely no issues with paying the bill at whatever the price is and just avoid bringing my vehicle back to someone who is unresponsive and takes your vehicle for 4-6 weeks standard. Now that the vehicle is not fixed what am I to do pay the bill in full?? The next reasonable option would be to have the person that performed the work make it right, but Andrew and his partner had made it completely unreasonable to think that if I did bring my vehicle back that I would get acceptable service or even be able to make an appointment to get my vehicle. The fact that I had to reach out to the police made the whole incident just completely insane. Andrew also denies this as well. I have many witnesses to what happened and it is well documented.
It is unfortunate but I think it’s necessary that the matter be brought to court because Andrew and his company have cost me more money and time than a typical repair. Now he is harassing me and threatening me. A judge will absolutely see the way Andrew operates as unjust. At this point it I think that someone should be looking into his practices. Nobody deserves to be treated the way I was.

      Sincerely,

      ******** *******

I have tried to be understanding about this situation, but to be berated by a customer like this after finishing a vehicle quicker than the quoted timeframe and delivering the vehicle on a day our business is closed (as stated on our door, on ******, and on all social media avenues). I do understand that when you're on the side of the road asking us for quick diagnosis, that it is not easy to listen to what I said including the fact that it "could" take 4-6 weeks to diagnose his vehicle. You may call any of our current customers with vehicles here, they have all been told the exact same thing. These vehicles as a sole daily driver is unrealistic, we have always been honest with the vehicles sold on our lot, unfortunately *** bought his vehicle from a dishonest dealer who does not service these vehicles. We are servicing vehicles that are 25-35 years old from another country, we have no service data, we have to order parts from japan, and theyre still carbureted. I know it is not easy to understand that things take time, but unfortunately this is the case and that's why we try to be realistic with lead times.

Again, the facts stand for themselves, the customer had a vehicle towed in, not running, was told it could take 4-6 weeks to diagnose, was repaired in 3 weeks, and was driven off the lot on a day that the business was closed and the bill was unpaid.

I am unsure of what "harassment" the customer is speaking of, since he picked up the vehicle all correspondences have been through email. Our invoice system sent semi daily reminders, all of which went ignored until the threat of a mechanics lien for labor and parts(again at a discounted price/rate). That is when *** threatened a BBB complaint. It is unfortunate it has come this far, all that needed to happen was for him to pay his deeply discounted invoice for parts and services rendered. As this conversation goes on and more time gets spent, our debt acquisition team adds to the invoice being collected on.

I do feel bad for *** and I did and will still say, if there's something wrong with his vehicle, since our repairs, we would be happy to fix it for him, but only after a paid invoice for parts and services already rendered.

      Thank you for your consideration
