I was quoted $1500-$2000 to fix a leak in my water supply line and was told that included the fix and getting the yard back to normal. After the job was done I got a bill $1850 for the repair and was told it would be an additional $350 to fully fix the yard since the dirt was too wet. I went with them because they had the lowest bid and then was told to pay more for something I was told was included after the fact when I had to choice.

    Business Response

My apologies for the delay in responding to this complaint, as we are a family business and we were away on a family vacation last week when the complaint was received in the mail and I am just now getting through my mail. Mr . ***** is correct in his statement that he was quoted $1500-$2000.00 for the job, which was to repair the broken water line on his property.  Water lines are underground work and hard to price as there are many unknowns.  The water line was repaired for the cost of $1848.00, putting us right in the middle of our estimate. The job we were hired to do was completed promptly and professionally, within the estimated price range.  That's usually a win win for us and the customer.  *** ******* frustration came after the repair was done, as he said one of our laborers stated that the ground would be filled back in when we finished, which it was, but due to the condition of the soil, settlement would probably occur. The area around the break varies from job to job and in some cases can just be filled back in with no additional work needed.  Some jobs have been leaking for so long that surrounding soils are so wet that they don't fill back in nicely and therefore requires additional dirt be brought to the job if settlement occurs as a result. This is an unknown factor in out job, and as we can't very well bring dirt in our repair van, it is not accounted for in the actual job repair. Additionally, it is not always required in every job, so not always figured.  Also, some owners really don't care if there are some bumps in the yard, and would rather leave it as is, or finish it themselves to save the extra money.  We are not landscapers so finish work is  not what we are hired for.   In *** ******* case, the area was wet and in order to return the yard to it's original state, there was an additional truck, 1 man and some fill required.  This was priced at $350.00. Mr. ***** called the office to discuss the fee and his disappointment in this fee, so we offered to split the cost to $175.00 as a compromise, bringing the job to a total of $2023.00. I don't like when customers are not happy and I also as a consumer don't like feeling like I was blind sided by a cost so I can relate to his frustration, and that is why I offered to meet in the middle on the cost.  He stated that he was still frustrated but that he would pay for the job anyway, without the additional cost for the dirt.  I was very surprised to get this complaint in the mail after I thought we had offered a very fair resolution.  I am sorry that Mr. ***** is dissatisfied with the service he received from us and I hope this explanation helps.
