Eleven years ago Finman Windows installed new construction windows in my home. About 5 years later one of the windows began to leak water into the house. The installer came by, removed some of the siding and re-taped the top flange, taking care of the leak at the time. This past spring I noticed water again leaking into the house. Finman Windows sent out the same installer who stated the tape had likely failed again and would need repair. Jed wanted to be paid for the repair of a job that had now twice failed. I also noted that one of the same windows had a failed seal, and would need replacement. Jed wanted to do the jobs separately and get paid for two service calls, not one.

A day later, the installer who originally came by my house retired. I believe Finman Windows needed to hire another installer. A few weeks went by and Jed Finman called leaving a voicemail for me. I assumed to set something up. I returned the call and was told Jed was out of the office, but he would be notified I returned the call. There was no call back from Jed. I was out of state for a period of time and had to tend to an ailing mother, but I only use a cell phone and wouldn't have missed his call.

A month went by, and after considering the installation failure and window seal failure, I emailed Jed asking for repair without cost, noting the job was already paid for and the fact that this would be the second time it needed repair. I also noted that a second window in another room was also leaking similarly. It is in a spare room over the garage that doesn't get used often, and it had been leaking for some time because there was mold on the garage ceiling just under the leaking window. Jed did not answer my email.

I believe when work is paid for and there is clearly no fault of the consumer when that work fails, the onus is on the company that did the work. As windows go, 11 years isn't a long time, and the installation work itself shouldn't have to be paid for twice.
