I contracted Salcedo Masonry, LLC to repair my chimney on 10-3-2022
Below is a list of some of the issues, but not all, for the chimney work
    1. The chimney was not rebuilt from roof line up as stated in the contract
    2. The repairs were not completed to architectural masonry standards and have started to fail prematurely.
    3. Excessive mortar joints on the first 12 rows of rebuilt section. One of the employees noticed the owner Luis S****** mistakes
and corrected by adding the spacer going forward which completely changed the look of the remaining chimney and does not
match the first portion of the repair or the existing chimney. The employee admitted to me this was a mistake and should have
    been corrected.
    4. The wrong size brick was used which caused the excessive joints and spacers ( 7 ½” when 8” bricks should have been used)
    5. The repointing work for the lower part of the chimney that is outlined in the contract has not been completed 100% (approx. 5-
    10% has been completed).
    6. Mortar splatter left on the new bricks and parts of the existing lower part of chimney
    7. Excessive amounts of debris, mortar, bricks pieces left in the work area
    8. Plants and landscaping destroyed by not properly tarping work area or lower half of scaffolding
    9. Piles of mortar left to harden on the concrete ledge on the bottom of the chimney
    10. Permanent stains and mortar on driveway, pavers, and street
    11. Employees and owner were very unprofessional screaming vulgar language, throwing tools, etc
    12. The company does not follow OSHA safety guidelines. Employees and the owner did not use fall protection while
    working on the scaffolding/roof
    13. An employee ********* in a bucket in our driveway and proceeded to dump it in our neighbor’s yard. After dumping ***** into our neighbor’s yard he rinsed the bucket and dumped it into our flower garden.
    14. A day after the repairs large chunks of mortar fell into our fireplace damaging the fireplace interior, hearth, and floor.

    Hello this is Luis S******

    Owner / Salcedo Masonry, LLC

     Responding to complaint Number ********

Original job was to rebuild the chimney from roofline up. New brick, cement, crown, lead Flashing, and to repoint lower part of chimney that was needed only. Areas that Me and the customer had talked about when going over the repairs. That doesn't me to repoint the whole entire chimney. Customer is trying to take Advantage of how I Worded on the contract to repoint lower part of chimney that was needed only which we talked about the area I was going to repoint. But he is try to get more work done so he don't have to pay. Next issue he had was the lead flashing when we started to demo the chimney the flashing was new I talked to the customer that the flashing was new that it didn't have to be replaced because the roofer had put new flashing when they did the roof. He agreed and we did the Rebuilt from flashing up I discounted $350. Next issue he had was pieces we didn't put in the 1st couple courses because the Brick they make now are smaller From the older bricks. Which caused head joints to be a little bit bigger then normal which he already New from the start. We kept on building the chimney but decided to open the chimney a little bit bigger to put in the pieces so the hand joints won't look so big. Job was complete we cleaned up after  Ourselves and was ready to collect balance. customer came out Saw the work saw the clean up and said the clean up was good but wasn't really to happy about us not putting pieces in from the beginning which he already knew from the start. He was ready to pay but I had forgotten my Credit card machine And told him when I get back to the shop I will call him to collect balance and he was fine with it. I tried contacting him To collect payment and did not answer the phone. It has been over 2 months job was complete and I have not received balance.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

The work was not completed as outlined in the contract and was not done to industry standards. The chimney will need to be rebuilt by a reputable company that can complete the work properly. The employees working on the project agreed it was not completed but we're being rushed to the next project by the owner. The attached pictures show the horrible craftsmanship and how Salcedo Masonry, LLC did not complete the job or cleanup.

    Sincerely,
