Last November 2023 I contacted Bellevue Publishers because I want to write a children’s book. They paired me with a project manager. Initially things were going well, but we ran into a roadblock of paying an additional $1800 for services that I thought were already included in the contract. I felt there could’ve been better transparency here, as we were planning website and audiobook content that I was under the impression was already included. If something costs extra, that needs to be communicated upfront. I noticed communication with the project manager lessened after that. One of the more frustrating aspects was asking for constant illustration revisions. The illustrations are absolutely subpar, with the same character looking different across different pages, the same characters looking more cartoonish and then more mature. There were numerous illustration inconsistencies and I’ve asked three times for revisions. After the New Year communication ceased. I reached out to the Customer Experience Manager Mark Callaway to figure out what was going on and was paired with a new project manager. I decided to take my business elsewhere, and asked for a refund. I will be happy with partial refund or refunded for the work yet to be completed. But they are overlooking my ask in emails and instead trying to work to resolve. I said many times I don’t wish to continue with Bellevue and they’re ignoring that and my refund request. I have seen other negative reviews of this company, with reviewers comparing them to a scam business. I can now see why. I am completely disappointed with how this is being handled.
