    Dear Better Business Bureau,

    I am filing a complaint against Anytime Fitness due to their unfair billing practices. I canceled my membership with them in October 2024, but they failed to confirm the cancellation. Since then, they have continued to compile a balance as if I were still an active member, despite my clear communication about canceling.

    I have contacted Anytime Fitness multiple times to reiterate that I canceled my membership and that I am not liable for any charges beyond the cancellation date. However, they have ignored my requests and are now attempting to claim payment for this fabricated “debt.”

    This behavior is unethical and unacceptable. I request the BBB’s assistance to resolve this matter by ensuring that Anytime Fitness:
    1. Acknowledges my cancellation effective as of October 2024.
    2. Ceases any attempts to collect payment for services I did not use.
    3. Confirms in writing that my account is closed with no outstanding balance.

    I signed up for a gym membership at Anytime Fitness in Somers, ** in April 2023. I had met with Joshua V****** who had signed me up for a membership. He made everything out to be amazing and has so much to offer. The membership is $60 a month, It's not worth it at all! In the first few months of going there, I noticed they do not answer their calls, they are never there during "staffed hours", and the gym is disgusting. They also charge you a $75 "club enhancement fee". I called and questioned about it to which I got no call back, but an email from Joshua V******. He didn't even have the decency to just give me a phone call back and instead took to emailing me. All he said was it was the "club enhancement fee", which I could not comprehend at all based on how nothing in the gym had changed or been upgraded. In fact, it looked ten times worse than it did when I first got my membership. I emailed him back and explained my dissatisfaction as the gym had a broken/shattered mirror that had not been fixed for months and was a safety hazard, plastic bottles left everywhere, and in general, dirty and dusty. It truly looks as if they do not clean it ever. He replied, apologizing that I felt that way and claimed they work hard to keep it clean. Fast forward to now, I’ve been trying to cancel my gym membership and no one has responded to me. I’ve called and emailed and physically gone there. Finally I got a response from him after posting a review on ******. He told me my account would be cancelled on May 9,2024 and I would not have to come back in. He did not apologize, offer a refund, etc. I have now been charged twice since May 9th, even though my membership should be cancelled, and I have gotten no response from Joshua after calling countless times. In my review on ******, the owner promised someone would be in contact with me to fix the issues I’ve had, yet I have not heard from a single person and have just kept getting charged money that I can no longer afford!
