    I filed my 2022 taxes with this company late February/early March 2023. I reached out after noticing they switched my social security number and my husband’s and my social security number was listed under my husband’s business as the owner. Each time I reach out for an update I get excuse after excuse (the office is being remodeled, a ceiling tile fell on his head, his laptop battery needed replaced, his laptop needed replaced, he’s waiting to hear back from his IT specialist to make sure our files were transferred, his brother passed…) all the while being told my matter was his top priority. It is now mid May and my “top priority” issues have yet to be corrected or resolved.

    This former client reached out to us in May letting us know that the social security numbers were swapped, about two months after a draft return was delivered to them. The draft return delivery included the following language: “We have prepared your returns based on the information you provided us.  Please be sure to review the returns carefully to ensure that there are no omissions or misstatements of material facts.”


    Next, this client signed IRS Form 8879 authorizing us to eFile their return. The following language is included on Form 8879: “Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined a copy of the income tax return I am now authorizing, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, it is true, correct, and complete…”


    During the two months between the client being delivered a full copy of their tax return for review we attempted to file this return twice. Errors in the information provided by the client caused a reject each time.
    Had the client provided accurate information at the onset, this return would have been rejected once in late March, revealing the Social Security Number error, and would have been filed that same day corrected.


    In response to the client’s complaints about our “excuses” yes, during the two-month period during which we tried to file this return my brother’s death and various tech issues did arise. We would have been able to serve this client despite these issues (as we did with the rest of our clients) had they provided accurate information initially.


    We are proud of the service we have provided to our clients for over 30 years. We can only work with clients who are willing to work with us. Life, death and tech issues are inevitable for both our client base and any small business. We would have been happy to resolve this matter with the client directly.


    We have returned this former client’s tax information and refunded their payment.
