We fell for the change to solar power with their company, help the environment, and save 10% on your energy bill. Well we didn't read and/or truly comprehend what the flier was actually "spelling" out... fool us once, never again. We have NYSEG and were on budget billing - nice monthly payment. To switch to Altus' "savings" we had to take our electric off of budget, then NYSEG would bill the regular full month. Altus gave us our solar credits in the NYSEG bill. However, the KWh cost/min when up 6 cent/ per min on average (day/night) and our regular NYSEG bill more than doubled even with the credits. Then... the Altus bill came for their 90% share of their solar bill (huge). Yes, they gave this "credit" in the NYSEG bill, then sent their own bill with some fancy footwork of their bill minus the credit. We had to pay the rest. Meanwhile, Altus took 3 months to get their billing out and even though we immediately cancelled our "service," it took 4 more months to pay for it all. We ended up paying way more with Altus (easily 3 times our regular bill). BUYERS BEWARE! (AND... We went round and round with customer service - they don't care and I know will make a comment after this - don't fall for it.)

    Dear *** ****************
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We understand how confusing the combination of budget billing, NYSEG’s standard billing format, and Altus Power’s separate invoices can feel, especially when joining a community solar program. Many New York residents participate in community solar—thousands across the state—and while most customers see clear monthly benefits, budget billing can make those savings harder to recognize in real time.
While budget billing does work with Altus Power, we generally don’t recommend using both at the same time. With budget billing, ***** estimates your usage for the year and then completes a “true up” at the end of your budget cycle. This means the solar credits the solar project generates and are sent to you reduce your total kilowatt-hour charges, but you typically won’t see those savings reflected as a lower monthly payment until the end-of-year reconciliation. Even if it felt like your bills were higher during the months you were receiving credits, those credits were helping to build a balance that would reduce what you owed at the end of your budget billing period.
    Regarding your account history:
    • On January 2, 2025, we emailed you to inform you of a project transition that temporarily delayed the application of solar credits to your ***** bill. You were not billed during that period since no credits were applied to your account.
    • On March 12, 2025, you contacted us to cancel your participation. During this call, our agent explained the cancellation process and confirmed it by email.
    • On April 10, 2025, you received an invoice for solar credits already applied to your NYSEG account prior to your cancellation. Our representative confirmed your account was cancelled as of March 12.
    • In the weeks following, our team reached out regarding your outstanding balance, which you ultimately paid in full on July 16, 2025, closing the account.
We sincerely regret that this experience felt frustrating and confusing. We again want to recognize that budget billing can make the savings opportunity with Community Solar less obvious and a bit confusing. We are continuously working to better educate customers about how these programs, budget billing and Community Solar, interact so their benefits are clearer from the start.
Your account is now fully closed and paid, and no further action is required on your part. If you have additional questions about how your savings were applied or how community solar interacts with budget billing, we’d be happy to review this with you directly at ************************  Thank you for the opportunity to address your concerns.
    Sincerely,
    Altus Power Customer Relations

I purchased a home next to one of their solar fields in *** they use cheap inverters, and the buzzing noise is so loud on a sunny day that we cannot be outside at the back of our home. We contacted them about the issue, testing was done, which was barely below the legal state limit, but they refused any sound mitigation. Even their own employee confessed to us in person that the noise was too high, yet the ownership refused to do anything about it. They do not care about the community or neighborhood impact surrounding their fields and use cheap equipment that barely meets states and local requirements in terms of sound.

Hi ******  Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We understand how important a quiet and comfortable environment is, and we take all customer concerns seriously and are committed to being a good neighbor.
We have reviewed the operation of our system and can confirm that it is within the established legal noise limits. With that said, we are exploring potential remediation options that could reduce the sound levels.
We appreciate your patience as we work through this process.
    Thanks,
    Altus Power Team
