On Monday, September 12th I took my 2008 ****** ******** with 192,576 to Midas, 1620 Rhode Island Ave, NE, Washington, DC 20018. I told the manger that I had just purchased the car and I think it had oil leak. I stated that this engine had potential for a head gasket failure. He stated that usually a head gasket failure would leak coolant but he would do a complete inspection. About two hours later he called and started listing all the work that needed to be done on the vehicle. I asked him to email me the estimate (which he did) and told him I would get back to him. After reviewing the estimate I agreed to everything but two items: replacing the front tires and replacing a rusted out exhaust flange. He tried to talk me into both those items stating that the vehicle would not pass inspection. I told him that the vehicle had already passed inspection. Everything I agreed to added up to $4,843.80, a lot of money but at least I did not have a head gasket failure. I picked the car up the next day and paid the bill. By Friday, September 16th I noticed that the vehicle was still leaking oil. Over the weekend I crawled under the car and saw a major oil leak. I was not going to take it back to Midas because I did not trust them, it was impossible not to notice the leak. On Tuesday, September 20th I took the vehicle to another mechanic (** **** ****). I gave them copy of the invoice I received from Midas. Upon inspection they confirmed that the vehicle had a major head gasket failure and found it unbelievable that Midas 1) did not notice or tell me about the oil leak/head gasket failure or 2) completed all the other work which was not urgent compared to the head gasket failure. On the same day I called and spoke to the manager at Midas, he refused to talk to me and hung up.I have spent $4,843.80 with Midas and now have to spend an additional $2,000 to have the head gasket and all associated work completed.
