On Friday (10/27/24), my son attended Delaware State University's student services department. He was informed that he would receive a refund for his account having a balance in his BankMobile account. My son informed DESU that he never opened an account. After some investigating, the school found that my son's information was compromised and an account was fraudulently opened. They called the bank with my son after I insisted. My son stated that the school stopped payment but would need him to work with the bank after an email was sent. My son and I received an email from the bank that afternoon. However, they sent confidential information to us with the hacker attached to the email. We called the bank and they proceeded to give us information with no verification of who we were. Thus we sent nothing to them to verify anything. I have attempted to reach DESU to have a workaround and got nothing. We do not want to work with the sketchy bank at this point as private information isn't so private but DESU is forcing the matter when I know there has to be a workaround for these types of issues.

Better Business Bureau: I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my complaint and have determined that this does not resolve my  issue.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. **In order for the bureau to continue to assist you, you MUST provide your view on the matter or your complaint will be closed as answered. My son's name is ****** ******, Student ID - D10751531.  We have attempted multiple times to resolve this matter and the university along with Bank Mobile continue to drag it out. Business Response

      Date: 10/17/2024

      Good morning,

Below are the notes on the student's reflecting communication of this concern with the student (***** * ****** - D110751531) and parent.  In addition, the refund in question that was initially issued to the student on 9/22/2024, was voided 10/10/2024.   The University went through all in-house protocol as well as protocol with our third-party partner (Bank Mobile).  Another refund is being processed, and communication has been had with the student regarding this.  The student is pleased and waiting for the refund check t be deposited in his account.

This student had his email compromised and the hacker used ******'s DSU email account to set up an Bank Mobile account in attempt to take any refund owed to ******.   The Student came to ****** ********** and they were able to have the refund reversed before the hacker could re-route the refund to their account.  I worked with K. ********* to have the Student's email completely reset.  K. ********* even came over to the Admin to help the student secure his email credentials.

I Called Bank Mobile to try to get them to reset ******'s account as Mom was very skeptical of Bank Mobile.  when they tried to call bank mobile to start the process of reactivating the account Bank Mobile sent the verification email to ******'s school email but also to the email of the HACKER.   Bank Mobile insists that ****** still needs to go through the verification process despite me verifying his information as a rep from DSU.  Bank Mobile through the verification process is asking for government ID, A piece of mail, and something else, which the Mom is reluctant to give despite everything they have been through thus far.   She was wondering if changing his email altogether would initiate a whole new account for ******; as  Bank Mobile was saying that the they cannot just reset the account , that the hackers information would remain in the account and it would be archived with the account.  Mom is clearly upset that the Account the Bank Mobile is insisting that they verify was never her sons account.

I currently attend Delaware State University and I live in off campus housing called “University Courtyards”. Our contract states that we have a 10 month lease which means we stay from late August to late May. The university has sent out an email telling off campus students that they MUST move out by December 14th 2023 and return January 6th 2024. They have given us no reason for kicking us out and only gave us a two week notice. Some students would have to pay for plane tickets, some students have no where to go, and most of us have on campus jobs that we were supposed to work over break. On top of this they are saying that we will not be refunded our housing for the time they are making us leave.
