      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my complaint and have determined that this does not resolve my  issue.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. After speaking with First State Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery on Tuesday(06/25), we contacted our insurance company.  There are no “outstanding claims” as they stated, they received the second check from the insurance in May and have been paid in full. Also, I’m not sure how any of this makes sense. Why keep thousands of dollars for a $310 balance? Why wouldn’t you refund everything except the $310? Which is exactly what they are calling a “good faith refund” now. They are trying to refund everything except the $310, which would be fine, except they were paid that amount by the insurance in May and are owed nothing. Therefore, they owe us a full refund of the money we paid in advance.

      Business Response

Spoke with the parents of patient today (06.25.24). We have resolved this issue with the parents eventhough we are still waiting from payment from the insurance on the date of service. The issue stemmed from the insurance provider stating we were paid when a claim was still outstanding and we couldn't not issue any refunds with outstanding claims. We are doing a good faith refund for the patient eventhough we have not received all our payments from the insurance provider as of yet.

I called and spoke with the patient's parents again today, along with the GEHA representative, *****. A refund ck (ck# 16379) for $310 has been processed and is going in the mail today (07.11.24), with the understanding that we are STILL awaiting a check from GEHA Insurance for the same amount. I explained that we were waiting for the payment from the insurance company before issuing a refund. As of now, the patient has a "balance" of $310 due to issuing a preemptive refund check. Once we receive the paper check payment from GEHA and apply the $310 payment to the account, the patient's account will then be zeroed out. I have placed a hold on the account to not generate a statement until we receive the payment from the insurance company.
