Suspected Medical billing fraud! My husband was hospitalized for a stroke in October 2024 and an MRI was done. The hospital billed for the in-patient MRI procedure and the hospital charge for the service was paid in full by Medicare. The interpretation of the MRI was contracted out to Southern Delaware Imaging Associates (SDIA) who then sub-contracted this service out to a radiologist named Vibhu Kapoor in Minnesota (NOT in Delaware). SDIA also contracts its physician billing to a company called Physician's Billing Associates. That company billed Medicare $230 and the provider agreed to accept the Medicare approved amount of $67, of which 80% ($53) was paid by Medicare under Part B and the 20% remainder ($13) paid by my secondary insurance (AETNA). SDIA then billed us an additional $162 directly, which is beyond the amount the provider agreed to accept as payment for the service. I contacted the phone number on the bill which says "Southern Delaware Medical Imaging Associates" but is actually Physician's Billing Assoc and the representative (David) could not answer a single question about the bill and only said he would have it reviewed. He quickly ended the call when I mentioned that this is possibly fraud. I am not new to Medicare claims, especially for hospitalization and the practice of billing a patient double the amount of the Medicare approved amount AFTER the Medicare and insurance claims are settled reeks of fraud.
