Between the spring and early summer of 2024, we (*****************************, **************, **) changed our **************** and Telephone Provider because of ongoing issues with connectivity and frequent telephone outages, switching to a 5G system and a VOIP phone system. Because of the digital nature of the telephone system, we were unable to connect to the fire and smoke alarm monitoring system through Johnson Controls/SimplexGrinnell. We had analog copper phone lines installed to the network interface box and, after being told by the telco contractor that the alarm folks had to hook them up, contacted Johnson Controls to connect them to the alarm system. A technician was dispatched and when he arrived, he looked at the telephone cabling and said they (Johnson Controls) couldnt connect the lines, that it was the telcos responsibility. He was onsite for approximately 20 minutes and did nothing other than tell me he couldnt connect the lines. At no time leading up to the technicians arrival were we told that their responsibility did not include connecting the telephone lines from the network interface box. I ended up making the connections myself. We received a bill from Johnson Controls for $1056.13 for this service visit. We disputed this charge as being unreasonable and onerous, especially given the length of time he was onsite and the fact that he did nothing. Johnson Controls turned this issue over to a collection agency without ever notifying us that the dispute had been disposed of in their favor. The bottom line is that we worked with the collection agency to resolve the collection issue at a reduced rate, but Johnson Controls was unreasonable, and far from transparent with their operation. We have been longtime customers (over 20 years), but we are ending our relationship with them.
