I was in the market for my first motorcycle after 8 years of not riding. ****** assured me that all the motorcycles he sells are personally test driven by him and inspected before selling so I felt confident buying from him. I ended up buying a 2014 ********************. I began riding it around my neighborhood and before I hit one mile the check engine light came on. I called ****** who said It must be an o2 sensor, take it to **** at All Makes Motorcycle Shop and he will look at it. I took it to **** who read the engine code and determined it was not an o2 sensor and had something to do with the exhaust and he did not want to work on it. I took the bike to another local shop and they found multiple issues all related to the exhaust and idle. I called ****** at Reaper to let him know what was going on and he told me to send him the invoice when the work was complete. The shop ended up removing and replacing the broken exhaust bracket that was causing a major leak, replaced the idle control censor, replaced the throttle sensor and replaced the throttle control. When looking over the bike they also identified several safety issues including improper installation of the handle bars (they were extremely loose due to being installed with electrical tape vs a proper mounting bracket), low brake fluid and multiple other issues. After all the parts and labor to fix the check engine light (not including anything else) I was out $880.62. I called ****** with to go over the invoices but I could never get him on the phone. I texted him the invoices and after several days he responded that he would send me a check for $125 because the bike was sold As Is. The mechanic at the local shop told me there was NO WAY the check engine light wasnt on before buying and likely was hidden before purchasing. So, ****** either lied about test driving the bike before selling or sold it KNOWING that there was an issue with the bike. ****** was dishonest and ended up costing me $880.

This is not quite how this went down.
First off all bikes that have pictures posted have automatically been ridden on a check ride for 3miles. And since I am the only one taking the pictures yes I dod ride that bike.
I asked to have the bike brought over to **** to look at it and to tell him that this is one of my bikes. If he had known that he would have worked on it. So clearly not communicated that this was one of my bikes.
I was not involved in the decision as to where he was taking that bike to because I would have directed him to a different shop if **** really would have refused to work on it, which he would not since he does that and all kinds of work for me all the time.
I was notified that the bill was $580 when it was all said and done. If there was a broken exhaust bracket they replaced it instead of fixing it. This is a 10 year old bike. That bracket would have been welded not replaced with a V&H bracket. The bill was overinflated with work that looked like someone did not know what to do and started replaced everything that would throw a code but not knowing what it actually was.
If he had contacted me and said hey **** does not want to work on it what do I do I would have called **** and had that straightened out. He could have called form there in fact and it would have been done. But bringing it somewhere that clearly did not know what they were doing and then handing me a bill, sorry that is not how that works.
I offered a courtesy credit towards to 3-hours labor and was told in return....if you do not cover more "I'll just leave a negative review on every board".
Once you try to blackmail me...well that is the last time we need to talk!

We enjoy 5-star reviews from pretty much all of our customers. But when you sell hundreds of bikes a year there will eventually be one who just feels he needs to get more. We have resolved issues with bikes that were delivered on numerous ocasions

I am rejecting this response because:

I guess Ill start off by saying that I did take the bike to Seans shop and explained to him where and when this bike was purchased. Seans reaction was that he did not want to work on it as it needed to go to a shop with the necessary equipment to fix it correctly. I explained this to ****** but he continues to deny it for some unknown reason.

The picture of the exhaust bracket that was welded is what came OFF the bike from Reaper Cycles and shows the kind of quick fix quality work Reaper Cycles is willing to sell. I would rather leave a negative review to inform someone else before they purchase from Reaper Cycles vs chase a refund from someone like ******. This is not blackmail, simply the truth.

****** offered to cover 1 hour of the service ($125 dollars total) out of a $800+ bill. I even offered to split the cost with him and again all he had to say is that I should have told **** that I bought it from him even after explained that I did.

The total amount of work required was for more than just the exhaust bracket and ****** knows that from our correspondence. All correspondence I had with ****** is saved and I am happy to share it.

At the end of the day, ****** claims to be a legitimate business and sell quality bikes but my experience is entirely different. I bought a bike that had three check engine codes that were manually deleted and certainly not disclosed in advance. ****** has denied all responsibility and the general public has a right to know about this when shopping for a motorcycle in the Palm Beach area.

    Sincerely,

    ******* *********

Lets get this clear, just spoke with **** and he confirmed that at no point was he told this was a bike from us and that I sent him over. If he did, he would have taken the bike in, He does not take bikes in that others had previously worked on, or owners had done work on before bringing it to him. So he did not know that this was our bike.

I do have your correspondence here too and the original bill you sent over was $500+ not $800. So they then added more to it and you thought you could get away with that.

And yes if you have a 10-year old bike you find easy cheap fixes not replacing parts. It is called fixing a bike not replacing it. That is what ****** dealers do, they do not know how to fix things anymore, they only replace. But clearly, your shop did not know what they were doing and started replacing everything and that is where we should have been involved.

Again, no problem fixing stuff after the sale and paying for it if warranted but it needs to be in coordination with us not "here is the bill I expect you to pay that".

Also, you drove the bike home from us and the check engine light was not on when you left and apparently was not on during your ride home (according to you it cam eon when you were riding in your neighborhood), so claiming that I knew about this is just wrong.

    and for definition purpose:
if you say pay this or I will do that...that is the definition of blackmail.

Clearly your ******** memory of this situation is not clear as I did not drive the bike home. ****** dropped it off at my house and sent me a photo of it in the driveway once delivered. I explained to him when making the purchase that it has been 8 years since I last rode a motorcycle and wanted to drive it around my neighborhood before taking it on the open streets to build my comfort level. I guess this is partly my fault for not test driving first, but I was expecting a shop with "5-star reviews" to be honest and dependable which is why I think it's important to share my experience.

To be clear, Seans shop is entirely separate from Reaper Cycles and not owned or operated by Reaper Cycles. I did bring the bike to Seans shop and after diagnosing it he determined that it needed to go to a shop that specializes in exhausts as "he has dealt with this in the past and it's too much time and effort to fix". On top of saying that I just purchased the bike from Reaper, I told him that I spoke to ****** less than an hour ago who said, "it's probably an o2 sensor" so there's no way it was not mentioned where the bike was purchased from. **** had over 15 motorcycles in the shop that he was working on that day and is a one-man shop so I would not doubt that he does not recall this situation that occurred almost months ago.

Lastly, I told ****** that the bike was going to a different shop and why. He told me to "send him the bill when it's all done". He didn't say that he would pay the whole invoice or even part of it, but I followed his request as he asked. All repairs that were made were necessary. For example, who would use electrical tape to mount the handlebars leaving them loose and an obvious safety issue when all you need to do is buy a $25 handlebar mount? Or who would weld a snapped exhaust bracket knowing that it's under continuous stress and vibration leaving it vulnerable to breaking again when you can replace it for $75? These are just two examples outside of the THREE check engine light codes that were manually erased from the bike prior to being dropped off at my house.

I'm disappointed to hear that you perceive my request to address the defective bike as blackmail. I simply expressed my intention to share my experience with others if the issues remain unresolved. I believe it's important for consumers to be aware of the quality of products and services they receive.

For BBB purposes, at this point I am not interested in having Reaper Cycles pay for the repairs as he clearly has no interest in resolving the issue. I am interested in getting my honest complaint posted about them as again I want other consumers to be aware of the issues I experienced.

You are 100% correct. I am mistaking you with a different client in the same area who bought a bike and rode it home.
    My mistake.

But today again, I talked to **** and he remembered you coming in and does not remember you mentioning the bike coming from us and having just been purchased. He said, if anybody would have said that he would have taken care of that of course, as we take care of these issues when we see them before the bike gets delivered.
So clearly miscommunication. And we have in the past (and will in the future) work with our clients to resolve issues. Always have. Plenty of accounts of that on our reviews. Why would I not do that for you?

There clearly is a communication issue here.

    Customer Answer

I understand, I am sure you sell a lot of motorcycles and perhaps this was all just miscommunication. I am not asking you to cover the entire bill, was just hoping you would cover the cost of whatever **** would have charged. If you truly think that it would only have been $125 then I am content with that.
