I contacted **** again 1/12/2024 he finally responded the repair guy was behind and is getting caught up. No response from ****, repairman or **** operation manager I contacted **** again 1/25 and 1/27/2024.Finally a repairman came out went in the attic and said they dont do soffit and fascia and I would have to get a company to come out that would. Why is it so hard to get a call to explain why I was billed $400.00 for a service Alans Roofing does not provide?I contracted with Alans roofing to do a complete replacement of the roof of my home on 1/4/2023. This complaint started when *** had some attic insulation work done after the roof was installed, and after reviewing the photos inside the attic she complained about seeing "daylight" inside the attic.  ****'s roofing sent a repairman out to evaluate the issue she had called  in about.  The "daylight she is seeing is the light that is visible from the intake ventilation of the home which is located on her soffits.  When the repairman was asked how to get rid of the "daylight" he informed *** that she could install new aluminum soffits and that would block most of the light entering into the attic.  ******** Home had an older style wood soffits that utilizes a cut out section of the wood covered my a screen to provide the intake ventilation.   *** was also informed that ****'s Roofing does not do new Aluminum Soffit installation.  Now directly to address the complaint *** filed with the BBB.  The charge she is disputing on the invoice for $400 is the charge to remove the existing soffits and reinstallation that was required for ****'s Roofing to perform the replacement of damaged woodwork. i.e. rotten rafter tails, new fascia boards, etc. .  the existing soffits need to be temporarily removed for this work to be performed.  ***'s home needed 45 ft of 1x6 fascia board replacement and needed 24 ft of 2x4 replacement that required the original wood soffits to be removed to replace the bad wood.  That totaled 80 ft worth of soffit removal and re-installation charged at $5/ft.  This charge is listed on ****'s Roofing 'Wood/Misc. addendum that *** signed..  What ****'s Roofing did not do however is charge *** for the 45ft of 1x6 fascia replacement.  At this point we are not going to charge for that wood as it should have been billed on the original invoice. ****'s Roofing understands that these project can sometimes be confusing for someone who is not in the industry and strive to explain the processes as best as we can.

I am rejecting this response because:
As stated in the response Im not in the roofing industry and I never implied that I was.  Thats the reason I made several attempts to contact ****.  I never heard anything from **** until 7/24/24 when he called to come to my home to take measurements.  I wasnt home so he came out the next day measuring and taking pictures outside and on my roof.
I asked **** why did he tell me that ***** roofing doesnt do soffits and fascia?  **** response I should have explained it better.  I am well aware that I signed a contract that included wood.  **** is also included on the invoice submitted with my complaint.  My concern is the extremely poor customer service and ignoring my request for a return call.  Why did t take contacting Better Business Bureau and two requests to reply?  **** also said that they will correct the small vents placed on my roof.  Yes the repairman stated new aluminum soffits and fascia MAY block some of the lights however what will be done about the gap between my roof and structure?

      Sincerely,

I am trying to understand what you are specifically referring to about a "gap between the roof and structure".  If you can provide a picture of what you are referring to, that would be helpful.  In the meantime, perhaps this will help.  The rafters from your roof sit on top of the exterior wall, they are usually 2x4 or 2x6 trusses.  There will always be a 4" or 6" gap depending on the size of your raters.  Your home has wood soffits covering the soffits with a section cut out to allow cooler air to enter at the lower edge of the roof, that air then goes into the attic between the rafters ( where I am assuming you see the "gap") and the air is drawn towards the top of the roof and s removed through the exhaust vents towards the peak of the roof.  This is the proper way to vent an attic space.  Some homes have open soffits and there is a vent put between the rafters and the wall (bird blocks) that allow the airflow into the attic space.  Your home has covered soffits made out of wood with a cutout, covered by a screen to allow air intake from the soffits, therefore from inside the attic you will always see the gap from where the rafters are connected to the exterior wall.  ****'s Roofing did not remove any defective wood that was not replaced.  if there are "gaps" between the roof and the wall that is the way the home was built and has been that way since the home was built.  In fact if you try to close the "gap" between the roof and the exterior wall, then you obstruct the airflow and proper ventilation of your attic.  ****'s Roofing replaced the roof as per the contract, passed the final roof inspection from the county. We did not modify or change the type of ventilation your home was designed with, we simply replaced defective wood as needed to complete the job.

I hope this explanation helps.  If this explanation does not help then please provide a picture of what you are referring to so I may better understand your concern.

      Thank You

I am rejecting this response because: **** have photos that I sent him of the attic and he forwarded them to ****.  I attempted to attach pictures with this response; however I was unsuccessful.  **** your explanation is very informative and better than the explanation provided by ****.  At this point I am stuck with the gap.  Please contact me to schedule someone to come to my home to correct the small exhaust vents on my roof.  **** took pictures of them when he was here to take measurements.  He agreed the vents are too small.  Once the exhaust vents are corrected I will no longer contact Alans Roofing or any of their employees or Better Business Bureau.  I apologize for going beyond the 30 minute time frame but I was trying to attach the pictures.

      Sincerely,

I will attempt to address the last 2 photos you uploaded,  the first one I will address again is the "daylight" which consumer is calling a "gap " in the roof.  I uploaded a picture of the soffits on this home.  They are made of wood with a cut out covered with a screen.  This is the way the home was built. The screened cutout is to provide intake ventilation for her attic which is required by code.  Insulation is not suppose to cover the intake ventilation and in looking at the pictures she provided they did a good job of not covering them, that said you will see light at the edge of the roof where the intake ventilation is.  This is normal.  To address the other photo recently uploaded, the vents she are claiming are "too small".  These are Lomanco 750 exhaust vents, each vent provides 50 net inches of exhaust ventilation.  The home already has ***** vents for the attic, these vents were added to provide additional exhaust to supplement the existing ***** vents.   These vents do not need to be any larger to provide additional exhaust when combined with the existing ***** vents.  The intake vents and the exhaust vents meets  current building code and ****'s Roofing will consider this matter closed

I am rejecting this response because:

********************* you considering the matter closed is a sad situation when your company superintendent **** said seeing the exhaust vents with his eyes they were too small.  He even made the suggestion of leaving the current exhaust vents and putting the exhaust vents back the way they originally were.

I am sick and tired of going back and forth with you.  If you feel your company did their due diligence in my roofing installation I hope you experience the same treatment if such matter happens with you or a family member.

I am definitely not satisfied with the service and I will never refer or recommend Alans Roofing to anyone.  I was told by your salesman Vijay the roof is guaranteed for 50 years.  I doubt that very seriously.  PEACE!

      Sincerely,
