Florida Marine Systems was hired to demo/remove existing dock; build/install custom floating dock. Work was to start Thur, 12/14/2023 and required 45% advance deposit ($15K+). Deposit payment made Wed, 12/13/2023. Pre-sale follow-up/-through and responsiveness was good; however, once deposit payment was made, there was a failure on Companys part to perform duties as agreed upon; and, it was near impossible to reach the Companys primary/only point of contact (***) regardless of many attempts made (phone, text, email).Project delays and ***s non-responsiveness triggered us to place project on hold. The excuses offered by the *** to justify delays and/or non-responsiveness were unacceptable had another job that got bumped up and engulfed him; phone fell and face of it cracked; was on the phone late helping out a friend and resulted in lack of confidence/trust in Florida Marine Systems. As a result, the project with this Company was cancelled. The two parties discussed way forward regarding return of materials and deposit refund. Next steps included the *** calling his supplier and providing us with an invoice for the following:?Suppliers cost to deliver/pick-up materials (no restocking fees involved)?Project work activities performed by Florida Marine Systems with an itemized list of activities, including fair/reasonable compensation for those activities Obtaining an invoice from the *** was difficult, at best. Not obtained: itemized list of work activities and fair/reasonable fee. Rather, the invoice was inflated (invoiced $1,000; however, $500 was reasonable for minimal project work conducted).Consistent with ***'s lack of delivering and non-responsiveness (post-sale), he continued to delay and/or not-respond to our many attempts to contact him in effort to recover the refund. Only when the *** received a formal NOTICE of ESCALATION (including legal services), did he choose to cooperate. Deposit refund, less $1k, was FINALLY received.
