My daughter has been a patient with Pediatrics in Brevard for over 9 years and has been treated for a routine medical check with this provider every three months. In the year 2022, my daughter was seen in January, April, July, and October. The July and October visit was billed additional charges that applied to the deductible. I called the provider once I received the bill for the July visit inquiring about the additional charges. I asked if the medical coding was incorrect or if there was something wrong with the overall billing. The visit was the same in July as in April and I was not sure why I was being billed additional charges. The doctor at the practice called me back to review the medical coding but I did not understand since I am not a medical coder. I was told to contact my insurance. I contacted my insurance but could not answer as to why I had additional charges. An appeal/complaint was made but no resolution. When I received an additional bill for October, I again inquired with the insurance company regarding the charges. I sent a formal appeal to my insurance Jan 23 with all related medical information. I contacted Pediatrics in Brevard on 3/21/23 and talked with the billing specialist. I was told that my insurance plan is no longer covered by their practice and this change went into effect June 14, 2022. I was not aware of this at either July or Oct visit. When I explained this, the billing specialist informed me they did not know either until the end of the year, Dec 2022. I received no information that my medical provider was no longer on my medical plan from my insurance or from the medical doctor. I do not feel I should be charged an additional fee when I was not aware of the charges beforehand. The medical office should have provided information to patients stating they were no longer going to cover my medical insurance so that I could have found another provider. The billing specialist stated they are now informing patients of the change.
