      Business Response

      Date: 11/18/2024

On September 2, 2024, at approximately 5:45 pm, our company ******************** DBA Dougs Towing was called by **************************** dispatch to pick up a ********************* the ********* area. All vehicles that are impounded are required to have letters sent out to the registered owner(s) of the car, the insurance company (if there is one), and the lienholder (if there is one). We generate these letters within 24 to 72 hours after receiving a vehicle. In the 2015 **** Explorers case, the letters were generated on September 3rd  and they were sent out via **** on September 4th. The letters inform the registered owner that we have their car, the amount that is owed, and the date it will go to auction. I have attached a copy of the letter that was sent out. The registered owner is ******* *******. Per company policy, only registered owner(s) are allowed to pick up the vehicle and/or the personal effects from the car. Since the vehicle is wrecked, the registered owner also has the option to sign the car over to insurance. The owner, Mr. ******** never came into our office to pick up the car and/or items nor sign our document releasing it to insurance. Mr. *********** and company did come in and inquire about the car and we politely explained the policy to them. They brought in a *** for Mr. ******* with the affiant of the **** With the **** the affiant is allowed to pick up the vehicle and/or items. They explained to us that they did not have the amount of money that was owed for the car, so they said they would be back with a wagon or something of the sort to help them carry out all the items in the vehicle being that there was a lot. They never returned. Mr. *********** said he had the title to the car, but it was not in his name yet. We explained to him if he could bring back the title showing his name on it and/or current registration with his name on it, we would gladly release the car and/or items to him without the *** and its affiant. We did inform them of the auction date at this time, which was October 8th at 8:00 am.  The next time Mr. *********** came into our office was on October 8th in the late afternoon. All of our auctions are at 8:00 am. Therefore when they came into our office, the auction was over, meaning the car was no longer available to be released. However, Mr *********** still did not have current registration and/or a title in his name for the **** Explorer. Both times Mr. *********** was in our office, he was treated with respect and given all the necessary information on how to proceed on getting the vehicle out of impound.
