July 8 2017 contract with American Building Contractors for a new roof. The plywood used on the roof was dark gray and weather-exposed. Was told by *********************** that the plywood is good there is no problem with the plywood. I even paid for extra plywood for the same condition at the cost of $65. a sheet. The fascia board that they put up also was not painted and was cracked. They had to come out and replace the fascia board and repair rain gutters that were attached. The ************ should have been painted with a top coat paint before installation. Recently the fascia board has been breaking apart and needed replacement. American Building Contractors came out to take a look. Their employee ***************** gave many excuses and a crazy price to repair. I had another contractor who did the work and found that some of the Plywood was rotten away under the roof shingles. FYI- American Building Contractors never gave a written warranty on their work or the roof shingles. *********************** stated that all warranties are verbal only. I don't feel secure with the roof being only 7 years old and plywood rotten away like in the photos. Please help me with this situation. Thank you

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns and allow us the opportunity to visit your home to assess the situation. Please find our findings below.

    1. We did replace 3 sheets of decking for $195. These sheets were found to be rotted and were required to be replaced to pass inspection. The remainder of the decking did not require replacement. All three of the inspections passed. Your permit #B-2017-021446-0000 and is public record if you wish to confirm the details. If there were rotted decking spots found during the inspections, we would have failed.

    2. We did install and prime the fascia board as a complimentary service. See attached. One, fascia board requires maintenance. If this was not painted by the homeowner and/or properly maintained over the course of 7 years you are likely to have rotting issues. We are also waiting on confirmation that the board replaced was even part of the rotting board he is referring to on this project. When we went out there our Service Tech was threatened with a call to police for trespassing, so we were unable to resolve that theory.

    3. Our corporate office mailed out the attached warranty information after the final invoice was paid in full. See attached. In the history of *** we have never only offered "verbal" warranties.

We do have more pictures of the decking but were only allowed upload 5 images.

I am rejecting this response because: I never received any letter from the business after the job was completed. Also, they did change more than 3 sheets of plywood. Because I was explained by *********************** that more plywood was needed. On my roof I have water ponding and cracking in the material. Also, I was never informed about painting the facade board. Question how was I suppose to paint the board with the rain guard on it after they installed the board?

    Sincerely,

    *******************************

Please find a copy of the inspection reports attached. All of the other evidence has been provided. The image shared of the fascia shows some delaminating. Given we were told by the homeowner he would call the police for us trespassing there is no way to determine if the picture shown is even part of the 20LF we replaced. It seems each time we respond either over the phone or on here the homeowner adds more items he would like us to address. The roof is out of warranty.

I am rejecting this response because: This complaint is about bad workmanship nothing else. As you see in the attach photos. Fascia boar that should have been painted before installing and plywood that was weathered and black on it. Recently I had another roofer replace the fascia board that was crumbling and he found other defects. Now my roof is only 7 years old and now I need to replace it because the plywood uncertainly and fascia board that was installed with rain gutters before it was painted.

    Sincerely,
