HUGE dust/lung problem. * vanity ordered by designer so deep drawers unable to open w/out closing bathroom door & moving to one side to leave room for drawer to open * no backing installed for 1 safety grab bar * 2nd safety grab bar where glass shower door would have smashed into it, therefore not installed * b/c of vanity error, new room door had to be ordered & reverse hung (New door not required if vanity was correct.)* many installation errors - ********, tiles, location of wall cupboard, height of vanity from floor, backsplash, etc * shower installers well versed in ******** installation! I trust that by contacting BBB I am not in any way creating a hardship for Allied. Sincerely, that is not my intention. My hope is that when all facets of this situation are taken into consideration that the balance owing will be reduced to zero.
After waiting many months for a commencement date I was excited for the project to begin. I was aprox a month out of a severe and serious lung cancer surgery but feeling strong enough for a 3 to 4 week project when I was guaranteed plastic room dividers and assurance that the job would be swift and contained so that dust would be kept to a minimum. As it turned out, after several discussions about where the porcelain tile could be cut outside, the young man who actually cut it, did so inside and ************** to contain dust was lost. The tiles he cut and installed were done incorrectly and all had to be removed.
Subsequent attempts to install the tile by other installers also failed and eventually even ******************** under the tile on the walls needed to be changed. Allied uses ******** and it is a big selling feature in their presentation. It was discovered that under the original ******** installation pipes were touching one another, pipes were touching wood, backing was inadequate, not level, etc. I later learned that the Allied people who originally installed the Shluter attended training to learn to do this AFTER installing the Shluter in my bathroom - it was not done well.
There were many, many other mistakes and mishaps - vanity ordered too large, so large that to open a drawer the bathroom door had to first be closed, one had to step to the side and then open the drawer, door replacement and reverse hung because of vanity, backsplash cut twice is still not precise, niche was too small, initial shower door install allowed water to leak out onto floor, wall cupboard hung in wrong place, vanity hung high, etc.
Allied provided a hepa filter. It consumed an enormous amount of energy. No one ever changed or cleaned the filter. In the end I purchased low energy hepa myself and within a few weeks had already changed the 6 month and 12 month filters - this demonstrates the air quality as it was from the hepa in use from Allied.
When we failed an inspection I arranged for no extra charge for reinspection. I personally cleaned the catwalk with a toothbrush on hands and knees because my requests to Allied to take care of it in a timely manner were ignored, regardless of the letters from the condominium corp. Eventually they remedied the situation, but not until I negotiated with the Board of the building and cleaned it myself. On more than one occasion I put away hoses, tidied the job site after the work stopped for the day. I repeatedly unclogged my drain with gallons of Draino because cleanup was being done in the suite. Eventually the pipe had to be disconnected and cleared out when Draino no longer corrected the problem. Please understand that when you're restricted to lifting 10 pounds, a gallon of Draino is a challenge to get from car to home and I needed to do it repeatedly.
I frequently was told a ******* was coming on a specific day and time and they were no show - this was stressful, because I needed to be ready for workmen regardless of my health.
There were things ordered for the bathroom that were not available (seat), were ordered incorrectly but not corrected (slide bar), were substituted without my knowledge (seat), were ordered and not used (mirror, grab bars), etc.
Each time something had to be redone, it meant the job lasted much longer than originally expected. In the end, after almost 7 months, the job dribbled to an end. This means I now have access to my laundry room again and I now have regular access to my bedroom again. For some months I slept in the living room on a couch because I could not access my bedroom. Please note that the living room was filled with the porcelain dust and regular construction dust. This was difficult and prolonged healing from surgery.
I request that the current outstanding balance be considered in conjunction with these hardships. I wish no one at Allied any ill will. The job had flaws from the start - starting with switching out project manager at the last minute that required me to call Allied to make an appointment with the 2nd person a day before the job commencement. Maybe I am not a big enough customer for ********************, maybe this is what a low end job is like for Allied. I do not know, but I feel that as I finished the last bits of the bathroom on my own there really should be nothing owing, exactly as promised to me by Sales Manager ****************** when he visited my home.
Because of the project manager I was assigned ( the one who quit mid-way through the project) I learned a great deal about the troubles on numerous other job sites, as the team meeting frequently took place in my dining room. This was entirely inappropriate but gave me insight into problems within the company which I hope Allied can address and remedy for the benefit of the many good people working there.
I selected Allied because of reputation and because of their years of service in the community. To everyone at Allied, I understand you have suffered financially through this job. Please understand I have suffered both physically and financially through it. My hope is that we can part ways amicably and I wish you all well. Respectfully, *********************************** ************

January 15, 2024, I received a message from ***************************** of Allied Kitchen and Bath.
I take issue with some statements in his message.
For example, he states, " we even redid the shower and did a lot of extra work that was not even in the contract "
The shower had to be redone - more than once, I might mention - because it was done incorrectly by Allied. Tiles were cut incorrectly, to wrong size, tiles had chips and gouges, tiles were cut unevenly, etc. He references extra work, but does not state what it is. Any "extra" work that was done was as a result of mistakes caused by and created by Allied.
He states, " we also reversed the shower door too, even though you contracted and approved it to swing the other way." The shower door was not reversed. ******************** has been misinformed. I believe it is the bathroom door that he is referencing. The vanity that the designer, ***************************, brother of ***, determined to be the correct size for the bathroom was too large - larger by 4 inches than the one that had been in the bathroom originally - and this created a situation that would not allow the vanity drawers to open without first closing the bathroom door, then moving to one side and opening the drawer from the side. This was the only way to open the vanity drawers because of the size of the vanity. The door was almost touching the vanity face. The most cost effective solution for Allied was to hang the bathroom door differently - creating an outswing door, rather than an inswing door.
So many things went wrong during this job that not only did the project manager quit, but an employee also quit. In fact that employee quit right in my living room and still had the courtesy and decency to clean up the job site thoroughly before leaving. That gentleman is the person Allied used to correct mistakes, a Fixer, if you will, and his skills and services were invaluable in a terrible situation. Without his expertise, the entire project might still not be over.As far as costs incurred by Allied, I am sure they are plentiful because of the amateurish workmanship that had to be redone a number of times and design flaws that created do over situations / wrong materials ordered / bait and switch/ etc. Please see earlier submissions about costs incurred as a consumer because of the work done by Allied that will also not be recouped.
Below please find the message from ******************** received 1/15/24.
Hi ********
My name is ************************* and I am the owner of Allied.
Id like to thank you for your business as we greatly appreciate you putting your trust in Allied.
I know that there were a few problems that we had during your remodel, bus as you see, we took care of them and you now have a beautiful bathroom.
I see we even redid the shower and did a lot of extra work that was not even in the contract. And *** just informed me that we also reversed the shower door too, even though you contracted and approved it to swing the other way.
As you can see, we never leave a job undone or unhappy either, and that is why we go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied.
My team is telling me however that there is a balance due, and we need to collect that.
Im sure you can understand that we cannot stay in business if we dont get paid for the work that we contracted for, and in your case, we did a lot of extra work and spent a lot more money too.
Im hoping that we can avoid any legal problems and resolve this amicably.
Ive asked ***** to send you another invoice and request for payment.
Once I receive that we will send you a final release of Lien, but it needs to be paid so we can close out your file.
Also keep in mind that without payment, your warranty is also voided and we will not service your account either, even after it is settled should we need to seek legal action.
The last this we want is to have a problem with all our clients, and we want you to be satisfied and feel good about your final project, so please, in the interest of good faith, and as per the contract that you entered into with us, please pay your final balance due.
If you would like to speak to me, I would be happy to discuss this in more detail, but Im sure we both understand that we have a binding contact and you are obligated to pay your final balance owed to us.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Bill

To answer her complaints.
We use in house project managers. The original project manager did not meet standards and we brought in a new one, all Allied employees.
Time frame was never, never 4 weeks. Our bathroom remodels take longer, and I would never say that. Client is not telling the truth.
This is a project that we started with a standard bathroom remodel. Everything went back where it originally was, and nothing was moved. Vanity redesigned to drawers for a more modern look. However with the door swing, when the door was open you can not fully extend it.
When we start, we protect all areas. Client did not want to put a zipper for the bedroom and went through the back patio allowing dust to blow around, and then complain that it was all our fault.
When we installed the tile, there were some areas that needed attention. These are large tiles. We had conversations with the client about what she wanted to do. We agreed and took off some of the tile as well as a grab bar that she didnt like where it was placed, although it was in the spot that she originally wanted. Shower doors swing in and out, so at one point it could hit the bar, however shower doors are mostly meant to swing out. In is not a regularly way to use them. This is not uncommon to have this situation.
We use a ******** system, and all the work is permitted and inspected if its not done right, the inspections dont pass.
We fixed it. There was another issue that she pointed out with Tile and again, we fixed it.
She complained again which we agreed to rip out the shower and completely re-tile it for her.
The floating bench seat that she ordered was not the same as our display in the showroom because it was a different model. We agreed to take the Showroom display and install it in her bathroom.
The vanity was installed, and as this was a different design, you had to Close the door to fully extend the drawer all the way out. This was still not much different than it was in its original bathroom layout. However, to satisfy her we at no charge reverse the door so its swung out. The drawers did work, but not fully able to extend with the door open, about of the way.
Client also asked us to move the vanity up, from our original install, which we did at no charge.
All decorative hardware was that she picked, approved and purchased. They were not faulty either for design or function, but she decided that she just did not like it. we took it back and credited her.
We have gone above and beyond to rectify any situation that she did not like, and never disappeared.
Although the job may have taken longer because we had to re-order additional parts and materials to satisfy the client, there was never a time that we did not show up. At the end of the project, she refused to pay our balance.
We gave her additional credits because she complained that she purchased underwear and also claimed that we broke her TV that there was no proof of that, but we did pay for that as well.
We have gone above and beyond to try and satisfy her and When the job was complete, she was happy, but thought we would just forgo the balance. We provided her the service, per contract, and only expect to get paid for what we all agreed.
Weve reached out numerous times and offered her additional credit and still no response.
In reference to her out of pocket expenses, we dont pay for underware which she asked. We credited her for her tv, and additional to try to satisfy her.
Our office manager at the time *******************, was only there to talk to client and was not, nor would have been able to or authorized to give credit, and we are willing to have him write this as well.
Electric bill for hepa filter that we use at the job, is for the project, and we are not expected to pay for electric. This is a normal 110 outlet device, so even if run all the time, does not warrant what she is trying to get.
The outside patio that she said we damaged, whether we did or not, we fixed.
The door, we fixed.
We redid what she did not like and credited her. We received our final building inspections, and our job was complete. Now that we asked for the balance, is when she is complaining.
We may have issues, but we handle them and address them. We dont run from them and expect that when we are done, we get paid.

In the attached photo you will see that the ************* that were installed in the shower stall were installed incorrectly.
The young man who installed them was entirely unsupervised. His boss, a subcontractor of Allied, had a long discussion with the then project manager and also with me. We toured the property together and he was shown where tiles could be cut outside, where hose/water was located for use with a wet saw all and pertinent questions were answered. I was assured by the project manager that this person was expert in hos field.
Immediately when left alone to do the project the young man 1) cut the tiles inside the premises and so porcelain dust was everywhere in the suite from the very beginning of the project and 2) cut the tiles dry, not with a wet saw creating rough edges. . In the photos you can see that the tiles that he installed were overhanging the shower stall, cut too large, not in the correct position. And that these were installed prior to the shower floor having been installed. In later photos you will see that the correct order is to install the shower floor first, then the wall tiles.
These tiles had to be removed and the resulting porcelain dust was in the suite for the next several months.

************* person did not continue on the job site. The project manager replaced that person with others on her "team" rather than outside sub-contractor.
************* were removed and then ******************** was also removed and it was discovered that there were there were things that needed to be addressed and corrected there as well under that initial ******** installation.
One of the big selling features for Allied is that they use ******** system and that all employees are trained in its installation and use.
I learned after it was installed in my shower that the project manager's team attended ******************** training course after installing mine.
Besides this, there were many inadequacies discovered when ******************** was redone that should have been addressed before ******************** was installed.

Certainly Allied recognizes that the ** was broken as a result of their employee carelessness otherwise they would not have provided another one.
I have attached photo that was earlier sent to *********************** at the time of proof of size of tv when it was in trash.

2nd tile installation also did not go well.
Tiles were not cut correctly to size to accommodate fixtures and had to be redone a 3rd time.
Backing for seat had to be redone again.

The shower door installation also was a fail.
This was another job outsourced by Allied to a subcontractor and the door was installed poorly, water leaking onto the floor because it was not contained within the shower stall by the door.
There was an appropriate space between the door and the wall at the top of the door but there was a gap large enough to comfortably one's finger at the bottom of the door. Thus water escaped onto the floor.
This also has to be reinstalled and this again delayed the job weeks.

At long last I was told that the shower install was completed.
In fact hat was not the case.
I discovered in my own inspection of the shower stall that the corners of the shower floor, not visible unless on one's hands and knees were open and if left in that condition would have allowed water to run under the shower floor.

Backsplash - This was another job subcontracted by Allied and the person who came to measure forgot his telephone in his vehicle and did not want to go to the vehicle to get it. Instead he wanted me to measure and take photos. I declined. It was much too reminiscent of ******************** asking me to send him a rough drawing of my suite with measurements after he had been here to do that himself.
Instead I loaned him my telephone and he sent the information he needed to himself.
The result, please see photos.
Corners did not match up.
The backsplash had to be entirely redone and there was a long unexplained wait for materials that I was informed were on hand from the original install of this material.
The second installation resulted in one piece of the backsplash being indented from the edge of the vanity top and another piece being flush to the edge of vanity top.
Very odd visually.

J. Examples of workmanship.
This all also had to be redone, although would not have been had I not asked for it to be redone.
I was told it was finished.
Please note in photos that the corners of this niche are not cut/installed in the typical way one sees them in a professional installation.
This demonstrates very poor workmanship and not what one would expect in a bathroom of this price from a company with the reputation Allied enjoys.

These 3 photos were taken Feb 13, **** - only last week - and only 113 days since Allied deemed the project completed.
These 3 photos demonstrate that already in at least 3 places on the shower stall floor the grout is eroding and turning pink.
What does this mean?
It means that the grout was never sealed.
This is going to be an extra expense for me to have the grout fixed.

Complaint: 21137922
I am rejecting this response because:Because I cannot attach a video to the BBB platform used for all other entries I am attaching the video here along with a photo that Allied earlier supplied which demonstrates another point in this message.
This video submission is to demonstrate the noise level, the dust, the lack of access to seating or space to lay down to rest that was available during this project which lasted from 3/27 to 10/22. This is a total of 209 days, almost 30 weeks. This is the environment in which I was living, cooking, sleeping and working while recovering from surgery.
In Allied's message they state that I specifically requested for there to be no access to my bedroom. This is not accurate. I did not determine where or how rooms would be partitioned. This was determined by the people Allied sent originally to prep the area.Access was available to the bedroom provided that no building materials and no trash bins were left in front of the door at the end of the work day. When these were in front of the door, I had to take off the plastic, which was covered in porcelain dust and construction dust, from a living room couch to sleep on the couch in a room filled with dust instead of sleeping in bed in a room that was sealed off from the construction area.I was told to be prepared each morning for a 7:30 a.m. arrival of the work crew. For me this meant rising at 5 a.m. to be ready including having showered, dressed, eaten and attended to wound care before 7:30 a.m. I maintained this routine, including on the days when no one informed me in advance that no work would be done on a given day. Exhausting. Before the project started, on 2 separate occasions I was told the project would likely be 3 weeks, maximum 4. This was first told to me by the originally assigned project manager and again by the replacement project manager before work was started. This was critical information to me because I had just been released from hospital from a lung surgery. I based my decision to begin the project based on this time estimate.Additional Information:BACKGROUND:One project manager was assigned and visited my home. He set the start date and explained what to expect, including how the rooms would be partitioned off from each other (ie: protected from dust), time frame, etc.He was removed from the job before the job started and replaced with another project manager. Her first visit to my home was on the Friday before scheduled work was to commence the following Monday. I had to prompt Allied to arrange for her to come to see the project on that Friday. She quit and the first project manager was assigned again to the job.I believe this created a lot of confusion and "dropped ball" scenarios.VANITY:The first (who is also the third) project manager noticed something not right in the bathroom and asked me to be out of ear shot so he could point it out to *********************I did not leave. I wanted to know what it was that they were going to discuss as I felt *********** know and understand what else was going wrong with this job.He relented and then demonstrated what he had discovered - the vanity loose, sloping and coming off of the wall. The vanity had to be removed and reinstalled. Why? The backing the crew of the 2nd project manager had installed behind it to hold it to the wall was inadequate. Additional backing was installed and the vanity reinstalled.BACKING FOR SAFETY BAR BY TOILET:None was installed, although the wall was marked for backing to be installed by the original project manager on his initial visit. Eventually I was able to find someone to open the wall and install the backing for the safety bar to be installed.DAMAGE TO CATWALK:In Allied's message they state that they are not sure there was any damage done to the catwalk. Please note in the video that it would be very plausible for damage to be done to the catwalk, and there was, which resulted in more than one letter/notice from the management company of the condominium as to my responsibility to fix this or pay for the management company to have it fixed. Eventually Allied sent a person to hand mix paint colors and hand paint the damaged areas.PAINT REPAIR:Because plastic was taped on the walls for such an extended time, when it was removed, there was damage to the paint in many areas.Allied promised to rectify this. I sent all the paint information to ********************. He informed me of his painter's name and time/day to expect him.The painter was a no show and I was scolded for not informing Allied sooner than the end of that business day. I feel it is not my duty to track Allied employees or subcontractors. This had become the norm for people not to show when scheduled. When the painter did show up on a different day he had different paint than what is on my walls and the spots he painted now clearly show. In one spot, the wall plug area that was damaged when the ** was broken, he never painted. He simply put furniture in front of it. Altogether another disappointing aspect, a fix gone wrong.ADDITIONAL EXPENSES:At my own expense I purchased on multiple occasions clothing, towels and sheets because I could not access the laundry. Also, I eventually purchased 2 Coway hepa filters and in short order replaced the 6 month and 12 month filters in both machines as they worked overtime to clean the air.Allied's hepa filter consumed large amounts of energy and no one ever changed or cleaned the filter in it. Therefore it was not fully functional.BATHROOM DOOR:Allied supplied a photo of the vanity drawer open with the bathroom door closed. ( see attached) This photo shows the original door installation, meaning it is an in swing door and the vanity drawer could only be opened with the door closed. In the photo that Allied supplied to show the vanity drawer in open position and the bathroom door in closed position, it is abundantly clear that a person could not stand between the open drawer and the closed door. The least costly solution for Allied was to hang the door in reverse so that it now opens outwardly, rather than inwardly. The reason for this problem having arisen is because the Allied designer called for a vanity much deeper than the original bathroom vanity. The original bathroom vanity allowed the bathroom door to open/close and the vanity drawers to open/close with no obstruction. With the door swing reversed, me, at 110 lbs, still needs to step back past the threshold out of the bathroom to fully use the drawer. This means the drawer can only be used in the fully open position with the bathroom door open. It cannot be with the bathroom door closed.Would the overall price be less if the vanity size had been smaller originally? Larger usually is more money.Would the overall price be less if the correct Hansgrohe wallbar had been ordered? Again, larger is usually more money.Would the overall price be less if the labor cost of installing grab bars that were never installed because it would have shattered the shower door be deducted?By the way, Allied suggested that installation of the safety bars in locations that could shatter the glass shower door was a typical design element. I beg to differ. I was told to remember, and to remind others using the shower, to only use the shower door in an outswing position to avoid the possibility of the glass door shattering.Would Allied have been satisfied with their return on this project if so many mistakes had not been made that required additional labor costs? and additional material costs (19 tiles where 6 were needed)? Is Allied simply embarrassed about this project?- 19 (nineteen) tiles used in all to install 6 correctly.- Miscalculation of shower floor tile. Not enough shower floor tile ordered originally for shower floor and for matching niche.- Miscalculation of bathroom floor tile. Not enough floor tile ordered for baseboard as well as floor. In both of these incidents, waiting on 2 separate second tile orders prolonged the job by several weeks.- Originally no sill piece ordered for bathroom niche. More wait time.- Install ******** twice.- Subcontractor mistakes (tile cutting, backsplash, shower door, etc.)- Employee turnover.- Even the toilet seat - took 3 attempts to install properly, 2 unsuccessfully by Allied, one successfully by someone I hired. As late as Sept there was still a list of 16 items to correct, many of which should never have been on a list had the job been done in a professional manner from the outset. It is regrettable that Allied has no doubt lost money on this project, and perhaps that is the case for other jobs that were being handled by the same project manager who quit. If that is the case, those jobs are likely much more costly than mine as Allied is well known for doing large and high end projects. Maybe this job was too small and held no prestige, thus not important to them.My bathroom is only **** square feet.No perspective drawings or 3D renderings or photorealistic drawings were provided although I understand Allied typically does supply these. The crew they assigned to this job, a small job for Allied, were ill prepared to do this job.Given the square footage and the number of days worked on it, it amounts to 5 days per square foot. There were many, many things that were done in a less than professional manner during this project and I have no idea what will still show up. Already it is evident the grout was not sealed and is eroded.I request again that we simply agree to part ways in an amicable fashion with no further exchange and to be true to ******************, Sales Manager, sent by Allied to look the job over and who stated, "On my children's lives, we are not asking for any more money.". ******************** denies that Mr. ******* said this, but if asked outright, Mr. ******* would be untruthful if he said he did not utter those words. After the lengthy discussion he and I shared about **************** and values and an invitation to his synagogue, ****************** would be hard pressed to deny having said these words. Please can we put this matter to rest with no hard feelings and no further exchange of any kind?I look forward to your kind response this puts this matter to rest.Sincerely,***********************************
