owner of the company - ***************** is a mobile RV technician. I hired him to troubleshoot and repair a switch that was intermittently not working for my rear slide out room on the *** He determined that the switch was old and was not making contact well. Instead of replacing the switch he instead used superglue to bring the switch forward in the panel. Subsequently, the glue migrated to the switch itself and rendered it unusable. When I contacted him he recommended that I break the glue bond and use the switch as much as possible until he could visit again. The switches for the front 2 slide outs would not operate at all at this point. **** did visit again, this time installing new switches with continued failure. He could not diagnose the problem even after installing new switches but still charged me another $350. I've now brought my RV to another certified technician who has determined that both of the slide out motors have burned out. The cause was determined to be from the switches being glued in the "activated position" and after a short period of time of constant activation the motors burned out. I've contacted **** to let him know and he is refusing to accept any responsibility for the damages. He knows he glued the panel and said to me at the time "I guess because it was hot the glue melted and migrated to the switches". Now....none of it is his responsibility. I do have all the communications on a cell phone text string of messages.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/17/2022

On September 15, 2022  I went to visit the customer for a leak on her Air Conditioning, after it was solved she asked if I could look at the switch of one of the slide outs because it seems hard to push.

After testing and checking the panel nothing was wrong with the switch, after years of pushing the switches, they sank down on the panel, so I readjusted forward up and glued them on the base frame they have.

Now the switches are back up in position, and I left the 3 slide outs  working perfectly,

After that apparently with the heat of South ******* the glue moved to the edge of the switches made them very hard to operate.

On October 3,2022 , I got a note from the customer, the switches were very hard to operate, but she managed to use the slide outs

On October 16,2022, the customer notified me that she bought new switches, She wants me to install them.

On October 18,2022, I went to the customer's house to find out she tried to change the switches herself even before she asked me to change them.

the whole panel was down with wires hanging. Only one of the 3 slide outs had the correct wires on the switch and was working. The customer bought 6 prongs switches instead of 3 prongs and tried to install them herself.

The not working slide outs have the switches with wrong wires., I have to use the multimeter and the wire diagram of the coach to get them right.

After all the connections were corrected, the slide outs still didn't work, further testing showed the motors were damaged. I notified the customer that unfortunately to change these motors the coach needs to go to a shop and I can not do it for her.

On November 8 the customer said to me "after a process of elimination, the motors were damaged by the hard to operate switches" and she wants to file a claim.

In order to try to resolve this situation in amicable way and timely manner we sent a proposal to the customer :

I am rejecting this response because: although the beginning of his story is correct it goes off track at the point of the switches were hard to operate. The switches were glued in a complete unusable bond. I had to use a mallet to break the bond and although the slides did move very slowly, the damage was done to the motors and they completely died after 2 or 3 actuations. I purchased new switches as I assumed the switches he glued were bad. The new switches do indeed have 6 prongs, not because they are the incorrect ones but rather, they are 2 sided switches. Again, the slides were already unusable when I purchased the switches and the wiring configuration was correctevidenced by one slide (rear coach) being operational. Upon ***** next visit he had me purchase a controller as he diagnosed that as the problem.it was not! He also informed me that the motor replacement was a big job requiring specialty tools. Subsequently, a competent RV technician replaced the motors (2 of them) in an hour with a few wrenches and and a screwdriver. In retrospect, Im thankful he didnt attempt the repair. **** has offered to reimburse me $1,000 - equal to the money I gave him for repair. The motor replacement with labor was $3,700. *** informed **** that I would accept $2,000 but that is as low as I would accept. He initially informed me that he had insurance to cover this and assured me that I would be contacted by his insurance company. I have not heard from anyonenot sure if he even has insurance at this point!

    Sincerely,
