Severely overcharged for tax return. I paid his bill. He refused to provide a digital copy of my tax return which he claimed was e-filed. Tried to charge me for responding to follow up questions and then sent indecipherable hand written note that was never mailed to me. He is a *****

    Business Response

    Date: 04/30/2024

    1. "Severely overcharged for tax return."   As explained to her in my multiple emails when she complained about my invoice's total, my invoice carefully segregated (a) the total charge for 2023 tax return prep and review (not exceeding the quoted, approved maximum fee, as adjusted downward from a greater actual total, from (b) the charge for time advising and assisting re info production prior to tax return preparation (not included in the fee estimate, as I noted; again adjusted downward for this 1st year client)  ... and addressed several issues with 2022's tax return invoice indicating poor quality of - and errors in - that return's presentation (thereby creating an apples-to-oranges comparison pointed out to here.

    2.  "I paid his bill."  Total $794: $650 tax return that included her business' income and expenses + $144 info assistance.

    3. "He refused to provide a digital copy of my tax return".  I advised her my standard practice is for clients who want a digital copy to just scan the hard copy of their return that I provide, and certainly in cases like hers (where she told me she would not pay more than $450 annually going forward) I do not provide that additional service, even though the time for that *** be minimal.

    4. "which he claimed was e-filed."  I did e-file her return.  I have a copy of the **** acknowledgement that IRS accepted the e-filing, as I told her; she did not ask for a copy of that.

    5. "Tried to charge me for responding to follow up questions."  I did charge her for just some of my followup time she requested, not included in my fee estimate, as I explained.  I had already advised her conceptually how to approach determining the amount of 2024 estimated tax pmts to make, with no charge for that, as I explained.  Then she asked for a deeper approach which I provided and invoiced her for the half hour of time for that, along with just 0.2hr for questions after issuing the 2023 tax return including a retirement account funding limitation rule handled wrongly for 2022 and construed wrongly by her financial advisor for 2023, based on her note and email to me with her question.   Total for that invoiced work:  only $116.  The detail for that invoiced amount listed several followup communications she initiated for which $-0- was the amount invoiced.

    6.  "and then sent indecipherable hand written note".  According to her.  In over 40 years of practice, not once has anyone said they can't read my handwriting; in fact, people often comment on good handwriting.  When she alleged indecipherable, I advised her the issue *** be the darkness of the scan of the copy of the note emailed to her after mailing the notes' original to her.

    7.  "that was never mailed to me."  Documented in my file is my 1st class mailing of the note she references.  Unexplained is her allegation that **** did not deliver the note to her after a reasonable period, but that does not change the fact that I mailed the note's original to her.

    8. "He is a *****".  That is a slanderous statement with no basis in any truth.  I dealt with her in all matters professionally and in the standard, ordinary course followed with all clients ... for a reasonable fee for all.

    9.  I understand she is an attorney whose practice includes mediation.  As such, she has made unfounded allegations like a litigator might make that only ****** argument and not a quest for understanding and truth.
