    They claimed they were in my provider network, copied my insurance information and charged me the co-pay that is the norm for in network providers. They then performed an eye examination which they in turn billed my provider. M ducal ethics requires that the patient be given proper information BEFORE consenting to services. Because this was an exam in preparation for surgery I have had to pay to get another exam so the first one was a waste of my time and money and has delayed me getting the help I need. They have billing me $30 dollars and actually threatening to send me to collections when I dont owe them a *****. I have reached out to them nine times and have asked several times to talk with the provider. They have never returned my call. I can prove in one minute that I dont owe them so I view their threats and failure to respond ad an attempt to coercively steal from me.

    To Whom It May ****************** response to the complaint submitted on 01/05/2023, ID# ********, our response is as follows:

    The patient was informed that we are out-of-network when the appointment was made.  At time of check-in, the patient signed a financial agreement that states the following:

    Please be advised that payment is due when services are rendered.  As a courtesy, the Skolnick Eye Institute makes every attempt to verify your benefits and collect accordingly. However, you are responsible for knowing your insurance coverage PRIOR  to your appointment........YOU WILL BE RESPONSIB LE FOR ANY OUTSTANDING BALANCE. 

    A copay of $35.00 was collected.  The actual copay owed was $65.00, leaving a balance owed by the patient of $30.00.  Statements were mailed and many phone calls were made attempting to collect from the patient.  The patient refused to pay and threatened to "ruin" Dr. Skolnick's reputation if further attempts were made.  The patient did not initiate any of the phone calls as he states in the complaint, and does indeed, according to his insurance company, owe the outstanding balance.

    Everything they said is not true. I did call all the times that I said I did and I even recorded a few of thrn so them saying otherwise is simply either a lie or an illustration of incompetence. 

    They have indeed contacted me, wrote off the bill and apologized, so who knows what their message here was even about other than perhaps to assuage the ego of whoever wrote it. 

    Its perfectly legal in every state to simply do the right thing. i am the aggrieved party and indeed have had to redo everything unnecessary at additional time and expense.
