The contractor provided an estimate for electrical work in the amount of $3500. We paid a $1850 deposit. A couple of days before work was to start, he said there were a couple of more items that needed to be done. He sent a quote for roughly $5000 more. I replied that was too much as he had already done work in the same area for $3000. We decided to look for a new contractor and requested a refund of the deposit. The contractor has not responded to any attempts at contact, including certified mail.

Date of transaction was 3/2/2023. Benitez Electric was hired to put faceplates on 9 outlets and check 7 of them for power. Two outlets in the kitchen were working fine and only needed faceplates, Mr. ********************** started working on the two faceplates for the kitchen outlets. He seemed to be having a difficult time as he jammed the wires in and both faceplates were bulging out. He said he had to get longer screws and he would be back in an hour or so. He also said the condo office needed his insurance verification. After he left I discovered the two kitchen lights he was working on that worked before, did NOT work now. I immediately called him and he did not answer. I called again in an hour and he did answer and said he ordered the needed screws. Later I found out this was a lie. I told him about the two kitchen lights not working now after he jammed all the wires back in and messed with the outlets. He said he would be back the next morning to fix them. He never showed up. I called him again, he did not answer. I emailed him and texted him and he did not answer. I called, emailed, and texted him for the next two weeks. He never answered. I hired another reputable company to fix the two kitchen outlets he broke. The charge to repair those two outlets was $363.92. I emailed him a letter asking him to pay for the two outlets he broke and he refused. I discovered that Benitez Electric is not a qualified electric business and most likely does not have a license or insurance as he could not provide them to our condo manager. His communicative skills, business acumen, and professionalism are non existent. I will not recommend this business to anyone as it is a sham of a business, very unethical, non a BBB member, and very deceitful in all his practices. I want the $363.92 back for what it cost me to fix his mistakes on the two kitchen outlets. If you are looking for a qualified electrician, DO NOT call Benitez Electric.

    CUSTOMERS FIRST EMAIL

On February 28, 2023, I called you for assistance in an electrical problem in our condo. I left a message and asked you to call me back. Later that evening you called me and I told you I had nine (9) outlets that needed face plates and needed to be screwed in and make sure they were working. Of the nine, we knew that two of them in our kitchen were working fine and only needed faceplates. I called you again on March 1st and stated our building required ** Insurance for all Trades doing business in our building. You said you had insurance and wanted me to email my address to you. Your website and the Invoice estimate you sent to me via email also verified it stating "We are licensed and insured."
I emailed you my address on March 1, 2023 and asked you when you could be here to do the work. Later that night, March 1, 2023 at 9:42 PM EST, you emailed me stating, "Got it. We can be there tomorrow 8-9 AM." Mr. ********************** called me twice on March 2, 2023 and stated the first time that he was coming but running late. The second call was when he arrived at the building without any insurance and they would not let him up to our unit. I talked to our ************* and stated he was just coming to see what the job entailed.
Mr. ********************** came up to our unit and I showed him the work to be done and he verified the price quote of $375.00. He was in the kitchen and I showed him the two kitchen lights that were working fine but missing the cover plates. Since I had the cover plates there, he said he could put these two on for me now. While I was in the kitchen, I noticed he was having difficulty putting the covers on. He did put the plates on but both were bulging out and certainly not acceptable to either of us. He said he needed longer screws and needed to get his insurance card and he would be back shortly. He left then and never called or came back. I turned on the two kitchen lights that were working before he arrived and neither one was working now. They were working fine before he started working on them, but now they were not working at all. I called him immediately and told him both lights he worked on were not working now. He said he could not find the screws he needed  and had to order them. I asked him where he ordered them from and he could not remember. He did say he would come to the condo the next day and fix the  two that were not working now. He never came or called. I called and emailed him many times over the next weeks but he never answered or replied to any of my calls, texts, or emails.
I hired a reputable electrical company and they came a week later and fixed the two outlets that Mr. ********************** worked on and caused not to work. The charge for those two was $363.92 including tax. They also fixed the other seven which was on a different bill.
Mr. **********************, I am requesting you to send me a cashiers check for $363.92 so that I receive it by March 30, 2023. If you do not, I will file a suit against you for that amount plus attorney's fees. In addition, I will notify the BBB and file a complaint with your licensing authority on the fact you do not have ** Insurance and your unethical business practices.

    COMPANY RESPONSE

On February 28, 2023, you called us for assistance in an electrical problem in your Apt. Yes, you left a message and asked us to call you back. Later that evening I called you and you told me you had (9) outlets that needed faceplates and needed to be screwed in and (make sure they were working). !!PLEASE DON'T BE THREATENING US!! We do have insurance and a license. I answer you on Saturday and you tell me to go there because the manager was not there on weekends and I can't do that. When I was gonna start the job she asked me for the ** and you told her I was just gonna see it. The problem I had was adding the building into the **. Other than that I've been doing this for about 10 years and I know for sure an outlet plate won't cause any problems related to what you are telling me. the reputable electrical company overcharged  you. I didn cause any problems in your kitchen.
We are a small company and we always try our best to help others with price quality and work done, for you to be threatening us for $363.92.

    CUSTOMER RESPONSE BELLOW

    Mr. **********************,
See you in court. Also, I will be reviewing your company on every website possible. You lied to me, you were derelict in what you did and you cost me money by ruining two outlets due to your incompetence! People seeking electrical service need to know this, and they will. I offered you a way out by simply paying for what you broke. Now, this will cost you much, much more. Wait and see. I do not threaten. I am a businessman, I take action.

    WE DID NOT ANSWARE

Benitez Electric Notes: We Went to the building the first day and i didnt know they requierd the liability and workers comp in there i got a little nervous and just install a double face plate close to the sink to the left side and decide to leave and do everything right about the Workers Comp and liability building was asking for before continuing working. they have new backsplash and i need to use SHORTERS plates screws so it wont hit the backsplash and make it look off the outlet. I have to do everything right so i leave I did order the shorthers screws, but he was in so much rush that he called me and tell me that the 2 lights where not working can you come back, i tell him im ordering the plate screws and will try to be there tomorrow to get the liability paper (you have to submited online and it comes back in 1H to 24H) and tell me just come on the weekends that office manager is not here than i tell him I CANT DO THAT. he got mad and he event had a switch that was just the wires and i dont event touch it I been doing this for more than 10 years and i know for sure that installing a wall plate wont cause any of that situation hes talking about.
