In March of 2022, we contacted Discovery Buildings for 2 buildings. We were asked to SCAN a deposit check for each building. We later decided to not go this route. We recently found that Discovery Buildings took the check copies and cashed them! I have no idea how this is even legal. And when we contacted them, they are now telling us that we have to have a written letter from the county that their buildings are not allowed before they will refund our $2500. Do not send them a copy of checks! They will cash it that same day!

Discovery Buildings' Contract with a Customer for a Custom Building states no Refunds of Deposits. Period.

Discovery Buildings in some cases will refund Deposits if an unavoidable permitting issue occurs with Customer's locality

unforeseen when Building was ordered.  If this happens Discovery Buildings requests this Permit Denial in writing from

local Building Department to consider Refund.

So, regarding the **********' s request for a Refund for their Building Deposits:

For many months Discovery Buildings' salesman Ken W*** worked with the *********** before and

after they ordered their Buildings in March 2022 with scanned check for deposit.  During this time Discovery

Buildings has many emails informing The *********** what was needed such as engineering etc. for permitting in their location.

But as stated in his BBB Complaint, Mr. ********** says "we later decided not to go this route", not a Deposit refundable situation.

Yes, they were told they needed  a written letter of Denial from their locality, as above, for a Refund..

Since they "decided not to go this route" they therefore did not want to purchase the additional correct engineering as explained

in email to them as needed for their County permit approval. Therefore, no Refund of Deposit in this case.

As far as checks being received and deposited the same day by mobile deposit it is a universal business practice done that way

with banks and does not deserve any more of an explanation.

    Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because they cashed a forged check! We never gave them any money, but they took thousands of dollars from us, anyway.

    Sincerely,

On 8/30/22, I signed a contract with Discovery Buildings to purchase a carport and paid a deposit of $396.34. I requested the plans from Carolina C******* and paid them the fee of $175. Once I received the plans, I attempted to get the necessary permit required to have it installed. It took and couple of weeks and then I was told that I could not get the permit to put the carport where I wanted. We have an extension on the width of the driveway and that is where I intended to put the carport. The woman in the building department pulled up the aerial view of the property and informed us that a permit could not be issued as it was against code. The carport could not extend beyond the front of the house. I then called Discovery Buildings to inform them that I could not get a permit and would have to cancel the order and would like to get my deposit back. We have been calling the company almost weekly for at least two to three months. We have not yet received a refund and I have been told at least twice that the check is in the mail. We called again this morning, spoke with Christian, who said that he will speak with Danielle to find out what is happening. He stated that someone would call back today to keep us informed. As yet, we have not received that phone call nor have we received a check in the mail. I told both Christian and Danielle that I would drive there to get the check rather than putting it in the mail. I would love to have gone through with this transaction, but unfortunately could not get the permit. I am just looking for a refund of my deposit. I know that I cannot get a refund for the plans.
