I purchased a 454 marine longblock from Marine Engines 4 Less last spring. The engine took about 4 weeks for them to build, which was reasonable for the time of year. The engine has purred like a kitten and I have about 50 hours on it. I felt comfortable purchasing from these folks as they knew what they were talking about immediately and didnt pressure me to buy. I have been recommending fellow yacht club members to them ever since. Thank you all so much!

Marine Engines for Less doesn't stand behind their warranty at all. Bought an engine, it locked up, sent back to them and got nothing for the expenses that I incurred. Seems Tim likes to claim his customers are all liars and there is no fault on their part. Was told three different stories about my engine. One, it would clean up fine and be rebuilt. Two, Was sending the same engine back but it needed to be bored .030. Three, Original engine was so badly damaged that it couldn't be rebuilt. Definitely did not receive the same engine back. Had the nerve to say that my mechanic didn't put oil in the engine and that caused the damage. Oddly, the engine had been running long enough during testing that it would have seized sooner than it did. Sent me a video of a test run on the engine but have no idea if it was my engine or someone else's. Very disappointed in their customer service. Very costly lesson and unfortunately am sure it has happened more times than a person knows.

Lori purchased a longblock from us that "locked up" and melted heat tabs after less than one hour on the water. We shipped the engine back from Nebraska to Florida for inspection and repair or replacement. Upon inspection all of the rod bearings and most of the main bearings were spun, the engine would not turn over, and the heat tabs on the engine were melted. Melted heat tabs (overheat of at least 260 degrees F) void the warranty. An overheat is caused by external forces (i.e. improperly set ignition timing, lack or lubrication, stuck thermostat, etc.) We reviewed all of these factors with Lori via email and she promised that non of that was the cause. The only other, I said, would be lack of oil in the motor.

Lori is correct: originally we were going to rebuild her engine, but we would have to line bore it because of the spun main bearings. It was faster for us, and Lori, to just replace the unit than to wait for us to line bore and order the correct main bearings.

Despite all of this, our owner, out of goodwill, replaced the engine and paid round trip freight to and from our facility. Lori then demanded $2800 in labor for her mechanic who "does no wrong". In my opinion, it was very gracious for her to receive a replacement considering the facts of this claim. We own up to our mistakes and make good on them, but we are not willing to pay her mechanic for his mistakes in addition to our goodwill gesture.

Interesting response from Tim. My emails and photos tell a different story but that's life. At least my experience with this company is now public for others to see. Hopefully it will help others from making a costly mistake like I did. Lesson learned and life goes on. Case closed in my opinion.

Seller: Marine Engines for less: Tim owner/ Wendy manager. Lies and more lies promised 2 week delivery. After seller took my money. many phone Calls an excuses Took 5 weeks. Received defective product. Several Defects : Bad lifter # 6 cylinder. excessive vibration at higher rpms. Internal Knocking noise near #1 cylinder Excessive metal particles in oil pan I have video with sound, and photos of the interior of the engine. Seller agreed that their is a problem with engine. He agreed to inspect the engine. Inspect Only. Seller then black mailed me Forcing me to sigh that if he found that I caused the defect. I would have to pay shipping both ways, or forfeit The engine. It has been returned to seller 10/13/ 22 On 10/17/ I talked to Wendy as far as a time frame for their inspection. She told me 2 to 8 weeks. I asked why so long? " We are short staffed corona vires" ? I asked myself "WHY IS THIS MY PROBLEM" I asked to speak to the owner Tim. I'm still waiting for a CALL BACK. He will not take my calls. I Called several times. I DO NOT TRUST THEM. I FEEL NO MATTER WHAT SELLER WILL BLAME ME FOR THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. Even if they repair/or replace the engine it will take 3 to 5 months. I do not deserve this. each time I remove and install an engine it cost me $1000. I have discovered they do not build their engines. They told me they did. another lie. They don't know what they sent me. In addition the engine they sent me does not match the invoice. When I questioned Tim he stated " It's close and it will work the same" I did not pay $3900. for close On the other hand if it was not defective I would of lived with it. stipulations that would void warrantee. Overheating , cylinder detonation =" damages pistons", lack of lubrication. water in oil I inspected for all this before, It was shipped back, and took photos. I do not want a replacement or repair from them. I can Not trust them. David ****

There are many falsities in this review submitted by Mr. ****. The one truthful statement that Mr. **** made is that the engine was shipped to him later than anticipate. The engine shipped 1 1/2 weeks late. During the time between Mr. ****'s purchase and the ship date, Mr. **** was made aware of the shipping delay and he wanted to continue with the purchase. At any time Mr. **** could have canceled and received 100% of his money back. Staffing issues during 2022 delayed production of our engines, on occasion. I know that our company was not the only company experiencing shipping delays. Regardless, Mr. ****'s concern is valid.

The remainder of his review is largely false. Mr. **** contacted us on September 21st (Mr. **** had the engine for about 3 months at this point) complaining of upper valve train noise. The engine had 7 hours of use on it after being installed by himself. Because noises are very difficult to diagnose via phone, we suggested that the valves be adjusted and if the engine noise did not go away, to have it shipped back for warranty inspection on our dime. He shipped the motor back to us on October 7, 2022. Mr. **** then charged the original payment of $3893.95 back to us, through ******, on October 20th. We submitted our evidence largely outlined below.

We informed Mr. **** of the issues found with the motor, including melted heat tabs (which indicate an overheat in excess of 260 degrees F) and the fact that there was a hung valve due to the overheat in cylinder 6. We supplied ample pictures and videos to Mr. **** of the inspection. He told us that we were "smoking something" and wanted his money back. We indicated that even though an overheat voids the warranty, we would cover the cost of roundtrip freight and our labor to disassemble, fix, reassemble, and test the engine out of goodwill. Mr. **** indicated that he would fight this through ******. Between late October and early November Mr. ****, through written means, harassed, stalked, and made personal attacks against our employees. This Included information about vacations employees had taken, schools they attended, and personal relationships that our employees have outside of the work environment. We decided that it would be in our best interest to rid ourselves of this agitated customer and issued a 100% full refund to Mr. ****. Despite this, he continued to send harassing and deceitful emails to our company, to which we have ignored.

In addition to his misinformation spewed about the warranty issue, Mr. **** says that "[we] do not build our engines". This is 100% false and I encourage potential customers to go on a tour of our facility during normal business hours. Our pysical address is listed above. In addition, he says that the wrong engine was sent. He used the engine for three months. This is false. That should say enough there.

Here is a link to the dropbox video and pictures sent to Mr. **** after warranty inspection.*************************************************************** *************************************************************** ***********************

In addition to the dropbox link, anyone curious about this review can contact us for every piece of written correspondence between Mr. **** and our company.
