I rented a car from Advantage Car Rental in Orlando on 3/4/2023-3/8/2023. On 3/4/2023 I called to see how much it would be to extend my rental until the following day 3/9 until 4pm and was told $87, I then asked about brining the car back earlier since I was already charged $341 for 4 days. I was then told it would be $94 to bring the car back on 3/9 at 10am which didn’t make sense that the price for an earlier return would be cheaper than a later return and was told it’s because they charge by the hour which still didn’t add up.I told them I needed time to think and would call back. It was very strange that they wouldn’t answer the phone for me to speak with someone about returning the car but kept texting me. For 3 hours the company couldn’t be reached although they are open until 11pm. After finally speaking to someone I asked about the same extension days and times and was given a completely different quote which was way more. Even when trying to return the car the same day they were trying to charge me the same price as they would have to return the following day. I also had a representative hang up on me when asking for clarity on the prices and then proceeded to pick up and hang up each time I called afterwards. They charged me $29.99 per day for insurance coverage saying I could only use theirs as it’s a Florida law which is a complete lie, I was told that limited liability which was $14.99 is what I would be charged. They refused to connect me with a supervisor and although they state calls are recorded they refused to listen to the conversation with me and the previous rep. This company deliberately lies to customers and inflates prices based off how many times you’ve called. There are numerous platforms that highlight the poor reviews with this company and I honestly wished I would’ve seen ahead of time. I came to Florida for a relaxing vacation and Advanced completely took my peace from me. I’ll never again do business with this non Advanced company.Initial Complaint

I flew in to Orlando the morning of the 19th of February to see my sister one last time before they declared her dead. I went to pick up my rental car. Had some issues with the deposit that I was unaware of but I paid it and the gentleman at the desk went over everything for tolls insurance and all that. I spent the week with my family in Georgia. Roughly 3 hours away from Orlando. Upon returning the vehicle. I returned the key they said everything was fine and I should expect my deposit back in roughly 10 business days. On the 27th I noticed a 936.83 charge on my account from them on top of the original amount for the rental. I immediately disputed with my back and contacted them for the charge. When I did they stated the charge was for out of state fee. I explained to the situation and informed her that I was never I informed that I couldn’t take the vehicle out of state because, had I known I would have taken my business elsewhere knowing what I had to do. I requested a copy of the footage of the camera when I checked out as well. She said that the manager will contact me. I have yet to hear anything from the manager or the company from that point on.Initial Complaint

AFTER ARRIVING AT THE ORLANDO, FLORIDA AIRPORT AND FOLLOWING ALL ADVANTAGE RENTAL CAR INSTRUCTIONS TO HAVE A SHUTTLE PICK US UP TO TRANSPORT US TO THEIR OFF SITE RENTAL LOCATION, WE WAITED FOR OVER AN HOUR WITHOUT A SHUTTLE EVER ARRIVING. WE ATTEMPTED TO CALL THE NUMBER PROVIDED IN THE RESERVATION ONLY TO BE MET WITH AN ANSWERING MACHINE. IT WAS 10:30 P.M. BEFORE ANOTHER UNAFFILIATED SHUTTLE DRIVER TOLD US THAT ADVANTAGE WASN'T ANSWERING BECAUSE THEY HAD NO VEHICLES! WE WERE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE LEFT STRANDED AT THE AIRPORT LATE AT NIGHT WITH NO OPTIONS! THERE WAS ALSO A WOMAN IN A WHEELCHAIR WITH A SERVICE ANIMAL!
THIS IS REPREHENSIBLE AND UNACCEPTABLE TO A CUSTOMER WHO HAD A RESERVATION MADE WELL IN ADVANCE, AND WE WERE TOLD BY AIRPORT EMPLOYEES, THAT ADVANTAGE DOES THIS ALL THE TIME! LEFT WITH NO OPTIONS TO GET TO OUR DESTINATION IN DAYTONA BEACH, WE HAD TO WAIT IN LINES FOR TWO HOURS, HAVING TO PAY NEARLY $1000 TO ANOTHER RENTAL CAR COMPANY BECAUSE THEY ONLY HAD TWO VEHICLES LEFT TO CHOOSE FROM.
ADVANTAGE CAUSED MY WIFE AND I MENTAL DURESS, STRESS, FRUSTRATION, AND AN ENORMOUS AND UNEXPECTED EXPENSE.
PLEASE CONFIRM THAT THIS COMPLAINT IS REGISTERED AGAINT ADVANTAGE RENTAL CAR COMPANY
ALSO, WHY ARE THERE NO REGULATIONS AGAINST RENTAL CAR AGENCIES? THEY SEEM TO BE ABLE TO USE BAIT AND SWITCH TECHNIQUES WITH NO NEGATIVE RECOURSE.Initial Complaint

In December 2022, I travelled to Florida for the holidays and rented a car from this company. The day before I was to fly back to San Diego from Orlando, the car's brakes failed two hours from Orlando and I had to have it toed. The rental company told me I needed to pay for the wrecker and they would reimburse me later. I paid $647.50 up front for the wrecker.
When I called them after landing in San Diego, they filled out a ticket and told me the manager would call me later to finalize it. It's been almost two months and I've been calling them every few days to remind them and they keep telling me the same thing. The manager has never called me. I asked for a number or email that I could contact the manager myself and they refuse to give it to me.Initial Complaint

After experiencing car trouble while visiting Orlando, we reserved a car for 5 days directly on Advantage’s website. We were presented with three different car types when booking. We took an Uber to advantages location from the car service center. Only to arrive and wait in line for 30 minutes, to then be towed from the desk agent that there was a website glitch, and they have no cars available. The website sent us three emails confirming our reservation and pick up time. There were several people in line that experienced the same issue, the managers noted that the company was aware of the problem, but they could not be bothered to send out emails letting people know that they actually do not have cars available to rent them. Even though they are taking $250 deposits from us and the other people in line, they actually did not have any cars to rent. They could not tel me when the deposit would go back on my card nor would refund us the Uber fee it cost us to get a ride there. This seems like an illegitimate business, and it seems there are several reviews online from people that have experienced this type of bait and switch advertising. Why is the state of Florida not doing anything about this issue? You cannot advertise product and take deposits from people that you don’t have the availability to fill. Clearly deceptive advertising and it cost us to Uber rides.Initial Complaint

On Dec 20, 2022, the rental car company used misinformation to make me buy their "optional" insurance (Collision damage and personal liability). Even though I explained to them that I used to live in the US and was paying with a US credit card that includes rental car insurance, they refused to even consider it, claiming that it was "mandatory" for all holders of international driver's license to purchase their insurance. I asked to see the written policy for this and they didn't have it. Later on, I sent them my credit card benefits brochure to prove my coverage for collision damage and asking for a refund of those fees at the very least, but they haven't replied to my email.Initial Complaint

Rented a car on 12/19/2022 around 8pm per Contract No. ********* Nissan Altima 12/19/2022- 12/25/2022 at Orlando airport. Reservation was made through **********
At airport rental office, the lady (Agent Tanya ***) INSISTED for over 20 minutes that we buy extra insurance for 14.99/ day plus taxes and told us we would not be able to rent the car unless we agreed as this was "Florida law". We showed her our credit card insurance from **** bank, personal auto insurance card from ******** ****** Insurance and Umbrella insurance from AIG. Since it was late at night and no other car companies had cars readily available, we had to agree.
We called the car rental comapny next day who said they would look into it and then subseq**ntly also sent an email through website of Advantage car rental where it said we would get a response in a few days but so far a month later we have not received any response.
We rented another car later in the month on 12/25/2022 through Advantage per contract ********* and the rep at the counter agreed that we did not need to buy extra insurance. Also, looking through the website and Google search , we could not confirm that it is " a Florida law to buy extra supplementary insurance"
Of note, we saw other agents telling the customers same mandatory law and forcing them to pay for extra insurance.Initial Complaint

I rented a car from Advantage Rent a Car from the *************** on Dec 17th 2022, to be returned by 12/27/2022 5PM, with payment of $715.26 made on Dec 17th. I rented the car to the same site at 2pm 12/27/2022.On 12/28/2022, I received an email from Advantage Rent a Car, saying my rental is overdue, and please return the vehicle.I have since then been trying to contact the company to figure out what's going on via both email and phone, but was not able to reach them.I was charged $65.58 to the credit card on 12/27/2022 for unknown causes, since I did not receive any invoice or receipt wrt the extra charge.I am looking to have the extra charge of $65.58 refunded and have myself exempted from any further overdue charges. I have returned home in ************* since 12/28/2022, and the vehicle was returned to the Car Return Kiosk, parking spot #2, around 2pm 12/27/2022, well within the scheduled return window.Initial Complaint

I rented a car from advantage rental car on December 2-11 2022. I was told when I rented the car that even though I had full coverage insurance that covered rental cars I still had to purchase supplemental liability insurance through them. After talking to my insurance company they said there was no need for this coverage. We I called them about it they said I would have to return to the office to have it removed. I was over an hour away from the office and could not make it back there. They said I could talk to them when I returned the car but I had to return the car at 3:30 am in order to make my flight and the office was not open at that time. They said someone from management would contact me which they never did. I have seen other complaints that this has happened before! I also received a bill for tolls and when I looked at the date they were for days I didn't even drive the car anywhere! When I asked about this they said "we can't charge you for tolls unless u pass under the camera so I must of passed them!" And if I wanted to see the pictures of the vehicle that drove through them I would have to go to their Orlando office. I live in Ohio so this is not possible! I have attached my rental agreement, my insurance policy and the invoice for my tolls. I was charged $134.91 for the insurance they made me get that I didn't need and $92.11 for tolls that are not mine. I have tried to email them through the email address provided by the BBB and it said the email address doesn't exist.Initial Complaint

I rented a car on December 9th 2022 while on vacation in florida. When i pre reserved the car it was for a "mid sized car" and with taxes and everything came out to $88.92. When we got there we wanted to upgrade to a Dodge Charger and the lady mentioned it would be $30 per day for the upcharge which is fine. Then she told me it was a $50 fee for a young driver which is also fine. At the end of it she told me my total was $177 and some cents i said okay then she said the total will be $324 and some cents and I told her i wasn't going to pay $324 for a rental she informed me it was a $250 deposit with the car and you'll get the $250 back so i said okay to that no big deal. Looking back the math didn't add up at all but i was okay with the $250 deposit coming back besides that i wasn't paying anymore after she told me my total was $177. I ended up reviewing my bank account and the receipt and she charged me over $500. Never in my life would i allow $574 to come out of my bank account for a rental car... I contacted them and they have yet to get back in contact with me after i called them on december 11th. They stole money from me and lied completely **out it and lied what i was signing to because she pulled up the signature pad and it had no total costs just information **out the insurance etc. I would have never signed or paid $574. I want my $300+ back. Below i have the receipt after i had already paid the "$324" which would of been the total amount not $574. And the initial page are also not my initials mine are **. I do not like being lied to and scammed out of money.
