We hired Florida Smart Movers to relocate their belongings during their move from ***********, ** to **********, **. They were provided with an estimate from Florida Smart Movers for around $1,500. Once the services were completed and the movers had possession of their belongings, they informed ****************** they owed additional fees upwards of $10,000 in order to have their belongings returned to them and holding their items in a hostage move situation. It was requested for their belongings to be taken off the truck and placed back in their garage, but the movers said in order for them to do that it would cost $3,400. They demanded payment be made before the truck left via cash or money order; however, banks were closed and exceeded the limit I could request to take out. It was required that I pay them via wire transfer the next business day and my belongings would be returned from their storage facility. I wired the additional $7,963 to a company "One Man One Van" which were the instructions given to me by the company. After I wired the money one of their "supervisors" then told me that it would be an additional $1,900 to have my belongings loaded onto their truck and delivered from their storage facility. All of these costs and charges were hidden and never told to me upfront. I've contacted attorneys, the **** and police officers in both counties about the situation. One Man One Van is registered to *************************** who according to news articles was convicted of the same scandal out of ***** earlier this year. These people need to be stopped. They're holding people's property for ****** and extorting people. At this point, I've had to pay the movers $11k to move me from one city to another which is only 2.5 hours away. Their *** number listed isn't registered with the *** and demanding payment immediately is against the law for any business.Initial Complaint

I had hired Florida smart movers US DOT: ******* to move my home from a home in land o lakes to new port ****** and they quoted me $415 with some discounts as a customer. I explained what was in the house to move. They gave me a quote for 3 movers for about 4 hours and an hour drive and said if there was overtime it would be 115 per hour. We had about 6.5 hours and it should have been no more than $230 more 1. They came late 2. They used packaging materials without my permission (when I asked why she said they had to use materials because I hadnt put a plastic wrap on my mattress. She told me did you tell the movers themselves you dont want packaging materials used- I told her to only use the materials free quilts that she said was included. 3. they packed about 1/3 of my stuff including the most expensive of my possessions. 4. they put my things on the truck then locked it and gave me a final quote of $2000 and demanded it to be paid in cash or money order, would not let me get my things back off the truck, and threatened to drive away and put it in a warehouse and charge me for it. wouldnt take a payment plan. they were going to drive away with my belongings and said they would charge storage even though they said i qualified for a month of free storage on my quote. they charged $300 just for "bulky items $375 for packaging materials and took off all discounts because it was over the original quote time. They didnt mention that when they quoted me that that could or would happen.5. On top of that they broke a lot of my furniture 6. They dropped off my furniture and materials at my new place and didnt set anything back up even though that was the expectation conveyed when I hired them. 7. Even after all of this they had the nerve to ask for a tip. Turns out they were just hired help from the moving company off of a job posting board like Kraigs list. 8. They hung up in my face when I was asking questionsInitial Complaint

Hi. I contacted the moving company and was quoted $550 for 4 hours moving 1 hours driving for 3 man. I made it clear all the items and it was on the 3rd floor no stairs. They got a deposit of $250 by card when I booked and today when they arrived I had to pay $225 by cash (70% before the job started) the 2 guys loaded everything and after gave me a bill of $2.151,63. I said that was not what I agreed to pay. They put me in contact with the office and the lady called ****** said if I dont pay they will keep all my furniture. I called the cops and he came. He said because I was not in danger and its a civil matter he couldnt do anything. I had to pay to be stolen right in front of a cop. The agreement was $550 for 3 queen ******** assembly and deliver. I got ripped of, they just dropped, didnt assembly and took all the screws with them. I had to get money from friends to be able to pay to get my furniture back. When I asked if they could just leave it and not take it they charged me $1k. I have a lot more evidence that I was scammed by a group and a cop didnt do anything. Im extremely disappointed, upset and frustrated that someone stole from me right in front of a cop. This moving company is a scam and needs to stop taking advantage of people. Im a single mother and I work a lot to provide for my kids.
