We hired Tropic Property Services (AKA: Gutters, Gutters) (July 2023) to install a carport. The business card provided by ************************* states they are licensed. Before they started the work my mother inquired about the permit because she knew it was supposed to be posted on the property. She was told by ***** that it is 2023 and everything is done on line and hard copies are not needed. During the construction she inquired about the permit and was told it was in the mail. When the work was completed she still had not received a copy of the permit and unfortunately paid them the full amount. I started corresponded with ***** and told him I got on the Sarasota County website and didnt see where a permit was ever pulled. On August 7 my mother received a Notice of Violation and Notice to Obtain a Permit. I contacted ***** and my emailed was ignored. I contacted the building department in Sarasota County and was told that Tropic is not a licensed contractor like they claimed. Her only recourse was to have Tropic or my mother hire a licensed contractor to obtain a permit in order to have the citation removed. After no success with ***** I contacted him asking for a $500 refund for what my mother paid for the permit. I told him that at this time we have no idea if the county is going to make us take down the carport he installed because no permit was obtained. He came back and said that he can get my mother to sign a Notice of Commencement form and he will have his sponsor pull the permit. I asked him to send me a filled in *** form and I will have my mother sign it. I continued to email him asking the status of the *** and no response. In order to get the citation closed my mother had hire a licensed contractor. We found out that the current carport was not up to code and would be required to be disassembled and redone. In the end she ending up paying tropic Property Services $16,000, plus another $14,000 in order to have the citation closed.
