      This experience has been an absolute nightmare and I strongly caution anyone against adopting from these people. They are disorganized, rude, and non-responsive. They claim to be a *****, but I have not been able to confirm this anywhere. After losing our 17-year-old shih tzu in May, my husband and I were finally ready to look into adopting our next dog when we came across Shih Tzu Rescue. We found a listing on their website for a bonded pair of shih-tzus who reminded us exactly of our dogs who passed away at 17 and 18 years old. I sent Shih Tzu Rescue an email inquiry. Harriet emailed me back almost immediately and asked me to fill out an application. However, after I filled out the application, she stopped responding. I emailed and called several times before she finally answered. She told me that I answered a question in a way that caused her concern. When I tried to explain, she then told me she was worried my yard wasn't big enough. For a pair of 10-lb dogs. I reminded her that we have had shih tzus who lived to 17 and 18 years old, and they loved the yard. She asked me to send her a video and she would think about it. That was two weeks ago. After a few emails and unanswered calls, I finally got a hold of her today. She said they decided to pass on our application because she "made a promise to the dogs" that they would have a big yard. I told her how sad it made me that here we are, two loving people ready to open their homes to these sweet dogs, and before I could finish the sentence, she hung up on me, I called her back to tell her I'd be filing a complaint with the BBB and also looking into their ***** registration. She said she was glad she didn't give the dogs to me and then hung up on me. If you look at their yelp, you'll see they have 62 reviews, 39 of which detail stories very similar to my own. I hope the dogs in their "care" are actually being loved, because they're certainly being denied the opportunity to go to a loving forever home.
