Feb.2,2023 a repairman, ******, came to my house to repair an accordion Hurricane shutter on my lanai. He said he repaired the shutter and pushed it back in place. He gave me a $300 bill that I had to pay even though it was way too much to charge. I have 4 of the same shutters on my lanai and none get moved until there is a hurricane coming. Aug. 29,2023 I had to close the shutters as the hurricane was coming and for the first time I saw the shutter that was fixed for $300 had never been fixed. The panels that had come apart were still apart and it was very obvious that nothing had been done to fix it. I called the company for 4 days the week of Sept 1 and only got a recording. I kept trying and the following week a female answered the phone. I told her that the shutter was never repaired and I was very upset over it. She offered to send the repairman back for no charge to see what was wrong and made an appt. for Oct 9,2023. On Oct 2nd, early evening ****** called me to see what was wrong with the shutter. I told him it was not working and was never fixed. The next 20 mins or so, he denied everything I said to him and lied to me. Some of what he said... He fixed it, not his fault if not fixed he is only the repairman, when I questioned him for charging me $300 for nothing he said several times he had to charge me more money because he had to come up from ***********, he said I had a 90 day warranty yet he never told me that and nothing on the bill said anything about a 90 day warranty, he said he told me that the shutter needed to be replaced as he couldn't fix it. He never told me it had to be replaced and when I questioned him and asked if that was true why did he supposedly fix the shutter? So he could charge me $300? He told me it was a manufacture problem and I'd have to call them. I had already done that and they were out of business. Right away he said how could he fix it without being able to get parts? More than once he messed up and let it out that he never fixed it. I finally told him I was going to the BBB and report him. He said if I do that he would come after me and *** me. He said he knew where I lived in ******, he knew what was in my garage, he would find me and take care of me and *** me. I hung up. I am a senior soon to be 80 yrs old and told him I want my $300 back.. He stole $300 from me and threatened me.

    Business Response

    Date: 10/11/2023

This is in respond to the complaint filled on Oct 4th 2023. My technicians were dispatched to a service on an accordion shutter. On arrival they noted the shutters were well over 20 years old. There were 2 blades that separated making the shutter impossible to close. They were able to get the blades back together and the shutter was in full working order when they left. But my technician told her there was no guarantee the fix would last and she really needed to replace the out dated shutter. The customer was present and watched the guys operate the shutters and paid her bill in full. I have attached the invoice she paid. This customer called right before ******************** ****** and also right after and left a message. My office manager called her back and she was irate demanding she get free service asap. She was told she was out of our normal area and that just made her more mad. So my office manager set an appointment for the guys to go back out on 10/9. She didn't realize that the office was closed that day, so the technician that did the repair gave her a call to see what was wrong and to inform her we needed to change the appointment. She was again irate with him demanding free service on her 20 plus years old shutters claiming they were never fixed. He told her she was out of the area and there is no warranty on service work for 20 year old shutters. He pointed out that at the time of service she saw them working. She told him he was confusing her with someone else and was asking if he remembered that she was the one with storm panels in the garage that he said he could not put up. He said yes he does remember her and her shutters were working. She began getting very irate with him and starting threatening that she is going to call the BBB on him. At that point he told her to contact the manufacturer and take it up with the makers of her accordion shutters there is nothing we can do for you at this point. He explained the shutters are over 20 years old and they are never going to be back to new condition, They were working when he left. I told my office manager to not take her calls because she was very rude the last time and she was even more upset now. We work out of ************** ** and ****** ** is quit a distance for ** to travel. She was charged $150 for the service call and $150 for the hour of labor. We are a repair service company we are not the installers or manufactures of her shutters. We typically carry a 90 warranty on service work and even if we applied that in this situation she was well out of the ********************************************************************************* know if you need anything else
