Took G3 boat to Sunshine around 1/20/25 for repair when boat would sporadically not crank. Paid for the repair and picked boat up a few weeks later. First trip out on the boat, it did the exact same thing so took it back mid-Feb. Was told by owner that he didn't think to check anything other than the one item he fixed, but of course we needed that repair anyway. He called several days later to tell us what repair needed to be done and that it would cost $297. In the same call he said he would take it out on the water to test it before we picked it up (he did not do this on the first repair). I agreed and when I picked up the boat on 2/27/25, the invoice was $561.53. When I asked why it jumped so high from his estimate, he said that was the extra charge for taking it out on the water to test it. I was never told it would cost extra to do this and would never have agreed to paid $225 just for that to happen, and not sure why he suddenly wanted to do this now and not for the previous repair for the same issue. When I told him he did not say the test run would be extra he said that if he didn't it was his mistake, but he was still going to charge me for it. He refused to budge on the cost, not even to split the difference since he admitted he told me one thing then charged another. $225 is a substantial amount of difference and I feel he should at least refund half of the amount since it was so much different from the total estimate he provided to me.

    Business Response

When this boat was initially dropped off to us the customer stated that the ******************** got so hot to the point of smoking and then stated that the engine will not restart when hot.  We found that the water pump was severely damaged and we repaired as needed.  An overheating engine can cause a no start condition so after repaired we could not further diagnose the no start condition as it started just fine for us on the hose.  The customer then picked up the boat and paid the bill.  After running the boat the overheat condition was in fact fixed however, the customer again experienced a no start condition when the engine reached operating temperature.  Customer returned the boat to us to check out again and after some careful diagnosis we determined the charcoal canister in the fuel system was inoperable causing a vapor lock during operation.  We discussed the issue with the customer and he agreed to the repair which we completed in a timely manner.  The customer was made aware that we would lake test the boat to assure that the issue was resolved.  It is possible that the customer was unaware of the charge for this however, it takes 2 men and a 25 minute drive to the lake each way for a lake test for which we normally charge $217.50.  We have made 3 attempts to contact the customer to try to resolve this issue and have had no replies from him.  As it is a possibility that he was unaware of the lake test fee we are willing to refund him that amount if he want to contact us.
